Over Rev Question
I recently bought an 02' 996 Turbo (3rd owner). I now have a Durmetric scanner and when looking at the information for the car it does show overrevs. This car has a UMW tune that has been on the car for almost 6 years. The rev limiter has been raised to 7000 rpm with this tune.
My question is, if the rev limiter has been raised will an over rev be measured anywhere above the stock rev limiter, which I believe is about 6400/6500 rpm?
Looking at the hours of the last over rev and how much I believe I've driven the car, it is quite possible the last overrev is under my control, but even if so, there could only be a few when I've driven the car and all the others were by the previous owners. I'm afraid to say how many overrev but something like 189. Yikes.
One other tid bit to add. The original engine was replaced under warranty by Porsche. The first owner had this done and it was no later than 2006 and less than 40,000 miles on the original engine. The car now has about 78,000 miles with ~40K on the new engine.
I assume the overrevs are for the entire life of the car since the total hours seem reasonable given the miles on the car with an average speed of about 35 mph (miles divided by hours).
Thanks.

I was actually looking at over revs this afternoon. As far as I understood it, the ECU still calculates over revs based on the stock redline, so you should indeed see more type 1 over revs.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
* Type 1: hitting the rev limiter (not too big of a deal)
* Type 2: pushing the engine beyond the rev limiter, usually caused by a mis-shift (aka a mechanical over rev)
