Complete rolling chasis price?

I have the opportunity to pick up a 2001 complete rolling chasis (less engine and tranny). I have no idea what the car is worth, but seriously considering picking it up as a project. It has ~60k miles the guy says and is otherwise pretty clean/straight. Any ideas guys?

Goodquestions. It is a Turbo and 6 speed car and it should have all wiring and ecu etc. The guy shipped engine and transmission to a shop that eventually went under. No issues on carfax and title comes up as clear.

motor and trans are around 20k out of a salvage yard ebay I would say. Get a shop to install 3k missing odds and ends 500 shipping the car to you. I would guess around 8-12k or so. Any options? pccb's, carbon, airo...?

$20k? $25k tops? Just a guess, but I seriously doubt I'd even pay $25k for a rolling chassis 996TT with 60k miles on it unless there was something truly extraordinary about it. I'd be willing to pay considerably more than that for a rolling chassis GT2 with lower mileage of course, but you'd really have to have a line on a good deal for an engine/trans/labor to even come close to having that make sense.

*EDIT* My valuations are too high given more thought, and the fact that it's an 01. I'd say even $15k would be a tough sell for an 'average' car in that condition due to the amount of money it would absolutely require to be whole (and running) again. I'd run away unless the deal was truly extraordinary!

Every roller is going to be missing "stuff" in addition to the engine and trans. Sourcing for those parts is going to consume money and lead time. I think 8K would be the highest i'd go.

Thanks for the help guys. He's pretty stuck on the 15k figure and not sure I can sell the idea to the wife at that price. I agree you never know what you're going to get but the interior and suspension looks complete otherwise.....decisions decisions

I know this thread is about a month old at this point but did you ever make a decision on this car? If not, would you mind passing along the contact information? Depending on the asking price, I might have a special project in mind.

There is a 2003 996tt 6-sps with 79miles right around the corner from me at the Nissan dealership (Capital Expressway in San Jose CA) and they are only asking $34k. no affiliation other than proximity.

Point is there are often smoking deals on working cars that may need some TLC but would make for an easier sell to the wife

+1 The replacement powertrain in these cars costs as much as the car itself so a rolling chassis doesn't do you much good if you're trying to save money. If you are not trying to save money, then why bother?

If a used one in good shape is worth we'll say $35k with those miles and it gonna cost you $20k for a motor and tranny alone and maybe another 5k in other crap I would be at a max of $10K. At total investment of $35 it's a good value for problem free TT. but if you did all the work and tried to resale I'd be lucky to get $30k.

I would be under $10k but I don't expect anyone would sell a chassis for that.

Just my .02
