there have been more than a few reported instances of rms leaks, as i understand it. it's not as big a deal as the ims issues but you can add me to the list of folks with a VERY minor rms leak ( RATS! )..

it's the ims problems that the n/a 996 engines have been troubled with, that isn't an issue on the mezger engine. again, at least as i understand it. perhaps that's what you meant. not to jinx you. you'll never have an rms leak

Exactly, things go wrong..... sorry to hear that. You are the FIRST person I know having that issue .. it's always bad it that one person happens to be you.. I had 3 water pumps go out in 20k miles on my Mercedes.. so I feel your pain .

thanks. fortunately, it's a very small leak and as such not visible unless it's on a lift.. but they happen..

I hear some folks here saying not to worry about higher mileage cars. It's not a point of worry, its a point of resale. The most significant financial component of this purchase will likely be the resale. If you pick a low mileage car now, you can drive it more miles and when you are ready to upgrade, you will get a larger component of the initial cost back. Also, you must consider the fact that a high mileage car (996TT or any other for that matter) is harder to sell. Just my .02, but with all my car purchases, I look at all aspects (car, condition, rarity, mileage, history, previous owners, etc.) and always strongly consider the eventual resale. I almost always pay more for a special car and have been fortunate to benefit on the resale (higher resale value and never have a hard time finding a buyer). Happy hunting.

From what I have noticed alot of these cars that are priced above the 50k mark have been sitting a while regardless of miles unless they are still under CPO.

The one at Jack Daniel's IMO is way over priced.

it looks like it has some nice add on bits, and the mods it has are well thought out. it could use a wash and a price drop, though it's nice to see even a dealership price point up rather than down. i would def check that one out if it's in your price range.
