In the market for a 996 - Turbo or NA? Advice for smart buy

Hey guys. In the market for a 996 with a limited amount to spend. In regard to reliability, would it be a smarter move to purchase an 01 turbo or an 03 na?

Im looking at a 911 turbo w/ about 35-50k miles on the clock and just curious if I should expect issues to arise as soon as I purchase it. Is there anything specific I should look out for when checking out the car?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Welcome,

Turbo's are the way to go for several reasons and I think most here will agree...

1.) The are pretty bulletproof and 996's are just not (though still great cars)
2.) Prices have come down so you can own a turbo for 38-45k depending on miles/condition
3.) Just another world compared to a 996. handling, power, potential, value/investment
4.) Bulletproof

I would have any car you really want to purchase checked out. There are a few typical things to look for but I have noticed that on an 01-02 you will see that list checked off. 6 speed is great for help on issues that come up though. I have been working with these cars for almost 15 years now and still learn here!

Where are you located? Look on ebay too, I know of a few cars up now

Good luck and get ready to become hooked!

Standard 996's have RMS and IMS issues (just google). My mechanic told me to just stay away and it wasn't worth it. Get the turbo if you're going 996.

drive the turbo, there will be no question which one to buy. unless the n/a happens to say gt3 on it. then it's a toss up and personal preference enters the equation. plus turbo's are ( for some unknown reason.. ) WAY undervalued:.. read "cheap".

re issues: yes, there will be issues. always. if the car was well maintained, they will be minor, but ever present. these cars are btw 7 and 11 years old!

Sambott is right. Turbos are bulletproof.
