BTW very often the manufacturer prints their name on the part and very often aftermarket companies consider them selves OEM suppliers if they sold as little as one item to a car manufacturer for a racecar or whatever.

different people have different perceptions of things. B&M shifter was not up to my standards and a 997SSK is lightyears ahead.

Well after watching many of your kills on Youtube you must be doing something right with your 997SSK
I still like my B&M but that's because I am comparing it to the stock one I just replaced which was ****e by comparison. It is nice to know there are other options out there if I do start to have problems with the B&M.

Yea so it looks like the previous owner cursed with me a B&M shifter, and didn't even tell me about it lol (no offense mrmaass ). Will I need a new shift link cable if I upgrade to 997 or 997ssk?

Just double checking if I'm right. Blue=B&M, correct?

That is definitely a B&M, yes. I'm not offended...actually I'm glad I haven't tried a 997SSK because it sounds like it is much better than the B&M from what I've read.

this is what i am running, would suggest you mimic it for VERY VERY precise feel.

OEM 997 shifter (not SSK, normal carrier, can be had for less than 100 from a porsche dealership as many guys swap them out during delivery)

GBox 2nd gear detent (read up on it if anything further is needed)

Porsche OEM CF shift **** (bigger, stronger and feels more precise, not to mention its CF)

Porsche OEM cup cables (my forward gears cable popped out 2x and instead of using a zip tie went this route, HOLY COW, does it feel precise, unlike any other linkage driven car i've ever felt)

EVOMS billet shift linkage (def helped to keep everything nice and tight)

At least you can now compare the two when you upgrade! It will make you appreciate your future 997 shifter even more when time comes to get it

I'd consider it a curse if I didn't have my B&M...

Yes and I stick by my insinuation that the installs were done less than perfect. How many folks have B&M and never post because they have no complaints? Mine works perfectly, always has and still does after 7 years...
..Then I think you are lucky to have yours work that good ..Others have had complaints,as I did..I was glad I swapped it for factory 997SS.
I still disagree with B+M being OEM...Never have heard that from the PCA members who have their trans redone at the race shops..
I have owned three 996s and had the shifter replaced on all of them..
I have had the B+M one and Porsche ones..I looked them over and they were installed by a Factory Tech guy ,who didnt have good things to say about B+M.
'My' opinion would be the B+M is a down grade as compared to factory 997SS linkage ...Just my thought here.
To each his own...

John, so I have the B&M currently and am trying to upgrade soon. Where would you recommend I get a 997 SS?

Tool Pants on Renntech did a complete comparison of the B&M with factory Porsche shifters and the EVOMs linkage years ago. It was quite detailed. He is the basis for my understanding the B&M is OEM. And quite honestly he knows more than most any techs in the US. Being a PCA member just requires a payment...LOL

Agreed!
