Shifter advice?
Shifter advice?
I have some sort of 996 ssk in my car right now, not even sure if it's B&M or the Porsche ssk 'cause the previous owner never even told me. I'm trying to switch it up to the 997 ssk or GT3 setup. In addition to the actual shifter, will I need to get a new shift link cable, with either the 997 ssk or GT3 set up? Where's a good place to order either setup from? Do I go for 997.1 or 997.2 setups? Any reviews would be helpful as well, thanks.

Here is a shifter you may want to be looking at.

just pop up your boot cover and look if your shifter is blue (aka B&M). I have one in mine right now and it's deplorable. Getting swapped out for a 997 long or ssk in search of a gear change that is actually smooth and doesn't feel like i'm shifting a riding lawn mower.

Did you used to like yours and after it has worn, you like it less? I have read another report that they don't wear well with the white plastic responsible for the "horizontal" movement of the shifter that links to the left cable underneath.

To be honest I bought the car 3 weeks ago with it installed and it just doesn't seem precise and has a lot of play. I guess I don't like the amount of force I have to use to row the gears and would like a smoother action. I always feel like i'm about to bend a shift fork with the B&M. That being said - I have no comparison with the 997 or 997ssk to base it against.
agreed. B&M for Porsche is garbage and it is not OEM lol

I'm just tired of having to constantly slam the damn shifter into place. If you even slack off just a tiny bit and don't slam it in, you actually feel a lack of full positive engagement. After I release the clutch, the car almost gives off the same feeling as if it were being bogged. I like affirmative shifts, but this shifter is just notchy. I can barely get home after a hard workout at the gym sometimes!

i like many others with this platform have had issues with B&M aftermarket shifters for this car. they are notchy and do not have positive feel to them. i did my own install so i know my cables were marked properly, once i switched to 997tt OEM SSK my issues to dissappeared and shifter feels great. if you search you can find dozen of threads with similar experiences to mine.
