I have a 2003 tip that is modded and my Torque converter was upgraded by GMG. I think it is a couple grand to have done. I am also waiting on a new steering wheel that has actual paddle shifters on it.
I would not go beyond 650HP/TQ with this tranny. I only bought a tip because I have nerve damage in my left leg now and can't shift like I used to. I was always one of those guys *****ing about how slow they shift! Lol! I guess if having a Tipronic in my car is the worst of my problems I am not doing to bad!
What kind of power you looking to put down?

I havent really got that far..it was a dream for me to get one..so for the moment stock is awesome..I want to go through the driveline first and make it as strong as possible then start adding power..
Also I would research the hell out of everything you want to do to it and don't be afraid to talk to some good tuners and maybe work out a road map on where you want to go with it. Good luck and welcome to the forum! Post some pics of your new ride!
the one thing i dont like is the 3rd to 4th shift to me under part throttle it feels soft.
other then that the car is fun..I have had my share of fast cars so its not over the top yet but again i just want to go over everything before i build power..and there are so many choices that a guy hates to blow thousands the wrong way...what are your thoughts on the tcu flashes and are you running one?

Besides the tranny built and torque converter (only needs it if you do brake-boost which I don't do), I had pretty much everything done to my tips without beefing up the engine. All works were done by SharkWerks which works closely with EVOMs. Todd Z actually programmed my TCU while I was watching at SharkWerks.
I think you have two options:
1 - if you don't want to pay for a tranny built, you can go as high as around 500 awhp. Just do a flash, exhaust, and suspension and call it a day.
2 - if you want a high hp car, do the tranny built first because it WILL give out. People are runnnig A30 turbos without an engine built now days. Any bigger will be a risk. (If you want a high hp car, you shouldn't get a Tip anyway)
About the paddle shift steering wheel, the paddles don't do much beside it looks cool. But you want to get a smaller dia. one (like 340mm), the car feels SOOO much better with a smaller steering wheel.
About the TCU, I have read that it won't work with the earlier Tip (like 2001). You can ask your tuner to confirm. Remember you need to re-program the ECU when you do the TCU.
Well, good luck with you car and enjoy.

That's exactly what I've found as well. Was going to jump all over the flash for my car ('01) but it won't do much. If you really want it, you can get a late model TCU and then flash it.
