Second Fuel Pump Install Issue

I just installed a surge tank / seconday 044 fuel pump in my 996 turbo, however i am not 100% sure i installed it correct.

Basically, with pressure and the return line looking the same at the fuel tank, I am not sure if i connect the lines up correctly.

I have confirmed that the origional fuel pump is pumping fuel into the surge tank. I have also confirmed that the fuel tank is NOT under pressure.

What i am not sure is if the pressure side of the new fuel pump is connect to the pressure line or the return line to the engine.

Question - the car appears to be running fine. Takes a couple more cranks to start (fuel line has no pressure), but it starts fine, idles fine, runs fine under paryial and full load. If i had connected the pressure line to the return line, and fuel was running the other direction to the engine, would it still run ok??

I was 99% sure i installed it correctly, but the more i think about the more uncertain i am. Will post pics tomorrow. thanks

You should be pumping to the surge tank and returning to the fuel tank from the surge tank. The pressure pump should go to the fuel rails and return to the surge tank. I do not understand how you routed the lines but look at this thread.

Hey Tim,

I have reviewed that thread. I am 100% pumping to the surge tank and returning to the fuel tank from the surge.

My confusion lies with the pressure line from the new pump, to the fuel rails. I am not 100% sure i connected it to the origional pressure line or the return line from the engine. My assumption is that if i connected it incorrectly, the opposite side of the regulator would see pressure, and the rails and injectors would be at 0psi like the surge tanks.

As i said, the car appears to run. Would the car run if i swapped the pressure and return line to and from the engine??

you should increase the fuel line size from stock anyway.

It won't flow backwards, so you have it hooked up correctly.

Thanks. I just confirmed by disconnecting the line at the fuel cooler and activating the pumps with the durametric. Also flow tested the pumps per the manual, and saw 2.8L in 30sec vs 1.25 requirement.

Thanks for everyones help.

I missed your reply. On gas you should run at least -6 for supply and return. the factory return is under sized for to pumps. What size injector are you running and what bar reg do you have?
