Installed GT2 front bumper, few questions
Installed GT2 front bumper, few questions
I just finished test fitting my precision porsche gt2 style front bumper. Fitment seems to be pretty good. I have a few questions though about a few odds and ends that I have to attend to before paint:
1) there is a sort of groove around the radiator vent openings. Is this part of the manufacturing process where the fiberglass is joined together? I assume I need to fill it and smooth it out, but I wanted to check first if there was any groove on a real GT2 bumper. You can see the groove in the closeup pics below
2) Any tips on what to do with the radiator ducts? I don't have a fortune to spend on making it a functional GT2 front. Should I just cut away the portions that are visible? Or are there any aftermarket options for GT2 radiator ducts? I looked up the part numbers for the real deal and it looks like real GT2 ducts are about $450 each, which is too much for me.
3) Should I bother with trying to re-use the plastic molding that goes between the headlights and the bumper? I was able to remove it from my original bumper, but I don't see any obvious way of attaching it to the new one since it clips into the original. Do most people get rid of this when installing aftermarket bumpers?
Thanks in advance for any help!

- Not sure either on if an OEM GT2 has those as well - I have the same front as you have...

- I bought some black mesh and put it in the openings - helps keep crap out and hides the ducts well!

- I didn't put those on and the new bumper fits up under the lights quite snugly so I doubt you would see them anyway.

It appears the groove is molded in to delineate what would be the mating area for the oem bumper and the plastic trim piece. If you want a similar paint job to oem then you'd paint the small section behind the groove a satin black to simulate the plastic trim piece. If you decide to paint it the same color then it's your call whether to fill the groove or not. Either way it will be obvious to the knowledgeable eye that it's aftermarket..... so what !!!
The TT center duct is a real miss match to the GT2 center. I've been wondering what others do with this when not relocating the center radiator to GT2 specs. I'm in the process of mounting an oem GT2 bumper and have done many mods to make the airflow correct to TT specs. I bought the center ducting for the GT2 ($160) and I'm planning on mating it to the TT center duct so it fits properly and provides air flow out and under the car as designed for the TT. Basically I'm cutting off the fronts of both ducts about 2" from the lips and then gluing the GT2 front to the TT back with some rubber cement including a backing strip for reinforcement. I'll take pics when I do this but it'll be awhile as I've got more important life issues to take care of right now.
I'm sure others will chime in with some suggestions. Good luck with your project!
