Motor Swap Question...
Hey Guys,
It has been many years since I've participated on the 6 speedonline forum. I've been out driving my Twin
However, yesterday I lost the motor, burned a hole in #2 and #3.
So I'm faced with two options, replace the motor with another one or rebuild it. I'm thinking of going with a replacement. However, my questions is this. I have a 2001 911 Twin. Wondering if I can place a 2003 GT2 motor in its place. Our shop can get one for a good deal is the reason.
I'm wondering if there would be DME issues with going to the GT2 motor vs. the Twin motor etc. Has anyone done it and I've just missed the post during my search.
Thank you in advance.
Cliff

No problem at all.. you may need to use your harness tho and I would. There is ZERO difference is agt2 motor and a turbo motor. NONE.. Turbos that is it! injectors are even the same..
Great info and thank you for the quick replies.
I lost the motor at a track day yesterday. Burned a hole in #2 and #3. We are investigating why now. Based on the location of the hole, we believe it was a lean condition that occurred - burned on the outside of the piston. Hope to know more in a few days.
Thanks,
Cliff

Drop in fitment with no issues. Same core motor as tim stated.
I always tell people 10-20K, because you never know what you're going to find wrong until you get in there, clean everything, and bust out the mic's. Then if you start adding up all the good "WYIT" options most should consider, it starts going up real quick. If $20K doesn't scare the customer away then I know they're serious and not wasting my time as we've all(shop owners) had tire kickers before
Best of luck in the repairs!

I guess it depends on the definition of heavy.
Exhaust, headers, turbos, TB, Flash, IC's, Injectors, Intake
I have a lot more done to the suspension than the motor in my opinion.
Cheers,

I've prepared myself for 25k, because I know once we are inside it is a good time to take care of other things. Just isn't logical to pull the motor apart to not replace something that could just fail in short order down the road is my thought.
Thus far I've had a quote in the 10k realm to 44k... All winter to fix it.. so I'm in no rush.
