Camber plates tarret, worth while mod?
Hello All,
Thinking about replacing the stock units up front with Tarret Camber Plates. My tech tells me that it will further roughen my ride but that I will feel it with more crisp turn in on my TT. I have done all the RSS stuff front/rear and run adj sways ft/rear with pss10 coilovers which for now have been fine. Not concerned about a rougher ride since this car is about 90% track.
I refreshed myself by reading Mikelly's susp thread and he mentions "pillow mounts" aiding in keeping the alignment true and top struts in place under heavy load. Are pillow mounts and camber plates the same basic thing?
If there is another brand for our cars I am open to it, but, this was the one I have been told about for now. Just wondering if I will really feel any difference if I get them put on my car?
Thanks!

It won't be that much rougher. You will notice it in a good way. You track, so you will appreciate the mod. Get one that is the top mount/camber included. I have the CS KW's which is top mount of the coilover. Tarret makes them if I recall. Speak to Ian. He is great and will set you in the right direction. What I would do is get the LWC adjustable and the solid top mounts. So the geometry stays the same. If not, just the solid top mounts that are adjustable is perfectly fine- for none pro competition.
Basically you're replacing the stock rubber top shock mounts with metal pillow ball (camber plate) mounts. The ride will not be any harsher but you will get more suspension noise. Pillow ball shock mounts and camber plates are the same thing. The nice thing about these is that you can quickly adjust camber for different tracks. Tarrett makes very high quality suspension components. A further thought is to revisit your PSS10. This is a great street coil over but has some weakness for the track. Changing the ride height changes the spring rates. The compression and rebound adjustments are not independent of each other. Since your going to pull the suspension apart to install the pillow ***** and have the car realigned, I'd consider a coil over that comes with pillow ball mounts, a threaded body so the entire spring assembly moves up and down maintaining your spring rates regardless of changes in ride height and independent rebound and compression adjustments.

I have been pleased with RSS top mounts (they don't advertise they make them) and GT3 LCAs. Plenty of adjustment for my tech.

I have some slightly used Tarrets sitting in the garage.
If you are interested, PM me and we may be able to work out a deal.
In short, they give you camber and if you track, you want more camber than stock will allow.

Oops! Just got on here and ordered them 2 days ago and already on the way. Thanks for the offer though.
I personally use the Tarrett front camber plates. My overall impression is that they add a measurable increase in precision in the front end. I put them on H&R coilovers (similar to PSS10). and I have had a great experience with them.
On a side note, I noticed you said you were looking at suspension upgrades like the Moton setup. Something you may wish to consider is the new Ohlins Road & Track coilover. I've been speaking with Beau at Perfomance Shock: beau@performanceshock.com
Technically the new Ohlins R&T set is not offered for the 996TT, but they have machined an adapter to use the GT3 set to mount into our uprights. You may want to talk to him about it. I think the new Ohlins R&T would be a great setup for you.
Good luck!
