Best route for goals

Hey all. I know this has probably been discussed before but I wanted to get opinions on my specific goals. I've got an 02 996tt 6 speed. I'm looking to make 550hp MAYBE 600, in the end depending on what all is involved. I don't plan on doing it all right away but I'm asking now because with my last forced induction build I maxed out with the turbo unit, and going to a new unit would have meant negating or redoing a lot of the previous mods.

Right now I have headers and a filter, that's really it as far as engine mods go. I'm looking at a possible tune, but before I drop the money on that I wanted to see if I would need whole new turbo units to meet my goals. So what's the consensus, can I make that power with my K16s, or do I need billets or something bigger? A big determining factor is what's more cost effective? Should I go with something like a K16 billet and a supporting tune and injectors etc from the start, or can I add supporting mods to my stock K16s and reach close to my goals? Thanks in advance. I came from Audis and I'm still learning the capabilities of all the turbo units available for the 996.

Are you talking 500-600 hp at the crank or wheels?

As always...go before show - determine your budget constraints (do all at once or in stages) - plan everything out before you start Frankenstein-ing it - try to use a primary tuner and parts that will work well together.
I would suggest:
- Exhaust (200 cell or 100 cell or cat-less - sound tolerance?)
- Upgrade Diverter Valves
- New turbos (do you want better low end spool or better top end?)
- upgraded FPR, upgraded injectors (maybe - may not be needed)
- I would highly consider LWFW/Clutch upgrade at same time
- Custom Tune after all of the major work
then:
- Suspension work - coilovers, rear sway bar, toe and drop links
- Etc - Braided brake lines, Slave, accumulator conversion, weld coolant lines, short shifter

- Then work on the 'show' items.

Crank. I'd love to make 550whp but I think it's beyond what I'm looking to do. I don't want to compromise reliability too much.

We have about the same power goals, same car too, mine is silver.

The K16's won't get us there. K16 billets seem to be the easiest choice to meet those power goals with tune and exhaust. I'm also planning on going with 997.2 intercoolers as they show a major improvement over the GT2 intercoolers (which are already better than ours.)

I'm doing exhaust first, as it won't require a tune to get performance out of it. Next step will be a stronger clutch, I figure I'll do that at 60k miles, right now I have 48k. If I can swing it, the turbos, tune, and fuel upgrades will done the same time as the clutch. If not, they'll go on later.

After that, I should be satisfied for power, and will start doing cosmetic things. I *may* get wheels before exhaust, not sure. I simply don't like the look of stock turbo wheels.

EDIT: Just saw you said 550 crank horsepower. K16's should be able to accomplish that, or come very close. There's dyno charts out there of cars with tune and exhaust with roughly 500whp, so that would be 550 crank, possibly a bit more.

500 wheel would be good with me. I changed wheels because I enjoy a change of pace once a year.

Do yourself a favor and forget the bolt on hybrid turbo's. You can get way more value for your dollar with real turbos and performance too. As for tune pick someone who can support you mod level now and future levels too. 500-550 crank is k24's no problem all day long every day..

K24/18's won't break the bank. Do a 5 bar FPR, reflash, and k24/18 and you'll be sitting around 500/550 hp/tq on pump.

I started with stock. 3 months in I did exhaust and tune and filter. At 6 months pss10's and wheels and tires. Now at 1 1/2- yrs new tial a28's, intercoolers, intake tubes, injectors, mounts, welded coolant fittings, gt2 slave, stage clutch. Will do 3in exhaust and custom tune. Point here for me is 1st tune and exhaust just implanted the mod bug. Selling the Fabspeed Maxflo exhaust. Hopefully it end here. The major stuff anyway. Be careful if you are like me you may want to wait and get all done once. Mine should be back friday or next week from USP MOTORSPORTS. Really looking forward too it!

K24's are a good idea and any of the smaller medium hybrids will do as well. If you just start with a tune and exhaust you will get close to your power goal with little expense.

Im pretty sure you will be happy with a K16 blllet( a couple to choose from ) with good Wgs, 5 bar, and a good tune... this In my opinion will be enough.... not all tunes are same nor billets... just saying... but your goal is very easy to achieve without any stress...
good luck

Thanks for the input everyone. It's good to hear from you as well Marksi. I know everyone here seems to think quite highly of you. If the choice were to be between k16 Billets and K24s, which would be the better option. I know the 16s will spool quicker but what seems to be their limit on power?
