Remove front drive shaft?

How do you remove the front drive shaft?
How would removing it affect the PSM in "Off" position when pushing the car hard (autocross)

I would love to be able to turn mine into RWD at certain autocross events (when the surface has great traction). This should help the car rotate better.

Unbolt the plastic cover and remove. Unbolt the little U shaped metal guard over the part that bolts to the tranny. Tilt the U shaped part down. Unbolt the four bolts were the shaft meets the tranny and pull the shaft down and out towards the tranny. Rebolt the metal U shaped piece back up. If you have a lift it takes about fifteen minutes.

Chad...

If you unbolt it and drive around, is the car drivable, or will it throw a host of warning lights???

The lights will come on while on the dyno, but once the car sees all four wheels moving then the system will clear. It is not a permanent code and will clear immediately while driving unless you hang it out to far

The PSM in foward motion is shut down if it senses that the front wheels are not in control. The ABS will still function.

PorschePHD,
Does this mean you can stay on the gas and brake at the same time?
Thanks!

You can "Heel and Toe". However, If you attempt to stay on the gas and brake for more that a few tenths the throttle body closes.
I race autocross and this feature kills the ability to consistently "plant" the front end when you need to. You can experience this easily on the street by just pressing the gas and brake at the same time.

bbeasley...

thanks for the clear up. I've heard this discussed on the boards before and didn't quite understand what people meant about the TB closing down.
