Radio Sleep Mode
Radio Sleep Mode
Hello again folks
I have a 2001 996TT and it was in the garage without been driven for more than 6 months. After 48 hours of trying to charge the battery (and to try and jump start it) I bought a new battery. I could not get the radio to ask me the PIN (Code) number upon connection of the new battery. After many times of disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it, it eventually asked me the radio code and then all was well.
The car was again stored for about two months with the car locked and as the manual says, after 5 days the radio goes into sleep mode. Last week I took the car for a drive and first I could not open it with the remote but opened it with the key and all was well accept the radio again. I have tried numerous times to remove and re connect the battery to see if the screen will ask me to enter the radio code again to no avail.
It has the big screen like the 2003 996's or the 997's although GPS does not work on this model for some reason.
All that he display shows is that it is booting from sector 5.25 and that it is waiting for a CD to be installed. Exactly like before but this time I cannot get it to ask me for the code. It also has a blue rectangular line on the display.
Of course the local Porsche dealer tells me the console is stuffed. Like I said I struggled almost just as much previously to get it to ask me the code.
Is there anybody out there that can help me.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards
Luke

The radio unlock gets deactivated after 5 days - that's why you need to use the key to unlock the door.
Your trouble sounds Nav related. I would check the connectors on the Nav unit - disconnect and reconnect everything. Check your fuses too. Check the Nav CD to make sure it's OK.

Hello Slider
Thanks so much for answering me. Yes the radio does into sleep mode after 5 days and also you have to open the car with the key them. However, as you said it is probably not the radio as such but the PCM. The PCM does not ask for code so one cannot wake it up. Very frustrating and we are talking many dollars for a replacement. Of course I am not even in the US which makes it even worse. I am a South African and hence live in Africa. The PCM has power for sure as there is a display asking for the CD. The NAV does not work on the 2001 models (here in Africa anyway).
Once again thank you.
Kind regards
