wheels -- need an opinion
Like you said, black is too "played out". I don't mind charcoal or darker grey though. With black, it's very difficult to see the details of the wheel, with charcoal, you can still see the details.
I definitely not a fan of the polished face, but I would definitely keep the polished lip.
If I refinish my wheels, it will be more like the wheels below, except I will also have the bolt heads powder coated the same color as the wheel face instead of chrome (I really hate seeing the bolt heads).

bbs CH?
ruger mesh?
) but i've gone black on my silver car and quickly went back
and have found a brushed alum look is more subtle. but then i have black accent bits all over the car. these are of course all completely subjective observations. but i admire your sense of adventure as well as your free time
but what i really want to know is.. whose freakin garage is that!? that's one hell of a garage. to say nothing of the hre's. nice.

(nice wheels)
Stay away from a chrome or polished lip unless its on a concaved wheel. The best thing about Plasti-dip is its so easy to take off. Here is a suggestion. Take the wheels on one side and spray them all black with the plasti-dip and leave the other side with a silver setup and drive the car for a couple of weeks. That way every day you can see both options and decide what you like best.
BTW, I used plasti-dip on my E60 M5 and loved it.
