Wanted to change the look from all silver to something that "POPS" but I cant decide which way looks best. I know many will say that Black is over played, however, Ive always thought that dark wheels look good on light cars and visa versa.
The first 2 are easy to see, however, on the third, I painted the sides of the spokes only (shadowing).
I wont be offended, so let em rip.
EDIT: One final note, Im using plasti dip. Its easy to work with, inexpensive enough I can redo or change things many times, and not permanent. Im getting a mild texture, not like Hix who recently did his whole car, but subtle enough that it looks good.

Like you said, black is too "played out". I don't mind charcoal or darker grey though. With black, it's very difficult to see the details of the wheel, with charcoal, you can still see the details.
I definitely not a fan of the polished face, but I would definitely keep the polished lip.
If I refinish my wheels, it will be more like the wheels below, except I will also have the bolt heads powder coated the same color as the wheel face instead of chrome (I really hate seeing the bolt heads).

I have three piece forged wheels from a board sponsor.
A little history. 18 months ago I saw some beautiful wheels on the site of the aforementioned board sponsor. When I inquired about purchasing the wheels, I was directed to a second board sponsor as the manufacturer does not sell directly to the publlic. Eight weeks after the promised delivery date (14 weeks in total) the wheels arrived. They arrived with the valve stems not properly seated. This resulted in a $200 flat bed charge and a lost day to bring the car to a local tire shop that deals with high end/exotics to get the wheels fixed.
Fast forward to September this year. When getting the wheels checked for a vibration (possible weight thrown) the tech notices that the one of the fasteners that holds the wheel together is snapped. Given the difficulty I had in dealing with the go between and the manufacturer during the purchasing process, I contacted a local shop (third board sponsor) to act as a go between. Long story short, these wheels have spent the last seven weeks getting refurbished (I was promised a three week turn around tops). They are now ostensibly at the local shop but I can't pick them up do to scheduling conflicts. So we are looking at yet another week.
I have never tracked these wheels.
If you search this board you will find some pretty scary tales about failed wheels, manufacturers not delivering after taking payment, etc. So proceed with caution.
In the future I will stick to forged monoblocks from a firm with a solid, and I mean soild reputation.

Thanks Steve. Im still thinking about gunmetal grey as well, although I like the look of the fasteners regardless of the final color. I think that I like the shadowing look, which I finished a few minutes ago, as the wheels are painted the same Artic silver as the car, and the black sides give the wheel depth. Hopefully Ill get lots more opinions.
Lacross, sorry to hear of your woes. Thats why Ive stuck with my Champions and have 3 piece HRE's on my s2000. Both are known for good quality, although Im sure all of them have had failures.

I personally don't like black wheels on a silver car. It makes it look "dead" instead of "pop". I like the shadowing but not sure if it is big enough of a difference. I have gold centers and a polished lip on my black car but not sure how well that works on silver. Could look good but it often results in a "love it or hate it" look.

I think you have a lot of options on a silver car. Satin Black looks good, Gunmetal/Charcoal looks good. I like the brushed silver wheels in your pics. I can't really tell what I'm looking at in the pics of the black wheels.

Personally, I am a big fan of black wheels, especially on silver/grey cars. Case in point, here's mine:

These are painted satin black, and I couldn't be happier. Makes my 11-year-old car look fresh, and new.

Black wheels don't do it for me but I did see some very nice gun metal colored rims because they matched the exterior paint of the Porsche. Call me old fashioned but I think wheels and rims are part of the proportion game that you need to play to get the maximum benefit of the money you spend. A nice lip, sufficient metal in the spoke area and a bright metal looking finish still looks the biznees to me.

OMG those wheels are exactly what I'm looking for. Sorry to hijack, but what are they?
I am a fan of black wheels. Love them. I am looking for wheels myself on silver. But the ones above are just perfection to me. In the end, its what YOU like. Who cares what others think
Thanks for all the input.
Im not looking for approval, but suggestions, on what Ive done in the "PoP" dept. Every time I see a light colored car with dark rims I get all goo goo, but now that Ive done them, Im not really sure anymore. There are lots of silver around here with the same champion wheels, after all, champion is right around the corner, so I wanted to try something to differentiate it from its siblings.
My wife, with all of her fashion and style, likes the all silver so she has refused to give me any opinions related to my work. Maybe when she sees the gunmetal on the 4th wheel, shell play along.
I like the sportec wheels, but to me it proves my point, dark wheels on light cars and light wheels on dark cars.
