Starting mods and recommendation on tune?

Performing some minor updates to a 996TT but looking for suggestions on tune or other missed parts.

Parts to install:
X50 intercoolers (got great deal on them and heard ~5% better than stock)
Bosch 710N diverter valves
Fabspeed 996TT Exhaust w/ 200 cell cats

I don't think I will change the intake but thinking a tune would bring out the fun of the stock turbos. Any thoughts on which one to go with?

Dont waste you time on the x50 intercoolers.. Best bang for the buck in my eyes is the forge ones. As for a tune think where you would like to be with the car. Say if the tuner can support what your end goal is. also some tunes are loaded through the durimetric cable and with that you can log, clear codes and a few other things.. GL with the car. Where do you live? Maybe you can meet up with other members and go test driving..

At your level almost every good tuner will give you a nice increase..
Do your homework and make sure you pick one that will be there for you down the road.
I have had a few tuners and Protomotive has done the best for me..To each his own..
Good Luck and Enjoy..

I like softronic. It's a self install and you get your stock file back so you can switch back if needed. Since you've already got the X50 intercoolers, might as well put them on, but the 997.2 intercoolers are much better.

Skip the X50 intercoolers and go straight to the 997.2 intercoolers. X50 intercoolers are a waste (I have my stock set, not for sale in the garage).

I like GIAC for tune, but there are a lot of good options.

Any intake mod is a waste until you get to 700+ HP.

unless you fully get rid of the intake and inlet piping and stick the filters right on the turbos. even at ~600whp levels it will increase spool

EPlabs.net great tuner and staff. If you live anywhere near the north east a custom dyno tune is well worth the drive. If you are going to do the IC's and pay for the labor, get something better than the x 50s

tuning is a must... make sure you ask what's included... we offer 3 reflashed for free meanwhile others charge you later... it depends on your goals and needs...

1. OP already has the x50 intercoolers. I assume nobody is saying 'toss them and buy ner...

2. OP what is your style? Are you a DIYer? Who does the work on your car? What tune are THEY comfortable with? Last thing you want is a shop blaming your tune, with the "had you used ____ we'd be able to work with it"

Lots of thread on 'who to use'... Lots.... more important to ask what factors should one consider when deciding.

I guess some members dont know how or dont want to use the SEARCH function?? Or even check the thread listings?
They would learn more and get a better idea of the whole picture..
OP I was not directing this towards you in any way..

I've read a lot of the posts via search. Many were back from '08 to '10. Thus, I thought it was useful to find out if tech has changed. I couldn't find any firm #1 in terms of tune and perhaps that might never occur. But wanted fresh insight.

But yes my goal is DYI. I'm on the fence regarding doing the K24 turbo swap myself since past threads said it's a 12 hr job.

I do like the Softronic method where I can add the file to the DME from my own garage. There is also a lot of recommendations for EPL or GIAC.

So goal now is 91 octane, Update intercoolers & add K24/18G, 5 bar FPR, updated DV & exhaust. Load a tune and done.

I see there is a lot of hack-in-chop to get the 997.2 intercoolers to fit. I had hoped the X50 996T would be a quick swap....but if both take 7 hours then I can see why X50 would be a waste.

Another benefit to our software is that we offer on-the-fly program switching. I know that a lot of Porsche customers like the convenience of quickly switching to the 100 octane "Race" file for a track day.

if you truely like diy and arent in a hurry im fabbing up 4.5" i/c from a thread from here. all the info is available from this site . cad design instructions blueprints and cores to buy. this has been done with great success and im going to do it myself. that will allow you build on a solid foundation for any future mods. hack and chop either way so get a huge i/c!!
