yes, another MAF question...DIY?

so, I think mine may be taking a poo, but sounds like everyone just eats them up left and right. I have no desire to buy a Ford or whatever and get a flow test, flash, tune and all that jazz. Im still stock with a flash and exhaust, so im not pushing crazy power....anyway, I was wondering, what is causing them to fail and what can be fixed on them? I imagine some just pop for new ones all the time, which sounds more annoying than the money issue I think. I am looking for a way to just fix mine.

Anyone have any insight?

once i switched out my oiled bmc for a stock paper filter i haven't blown another one. though increased power levels helps bring about maf failures, at least in my case, it did. ymmv. i was nearly on a first name basis with the ebay seller of refurb mafs on fleabay, ( though not a bad deal either at $47.00 a pop ) i no longer have his ebay store bookmarked for easy re-order

now i can fixate on other nuisance items. but changing them is definitely a DIY. eg.. if I can do it....

OEM airbox and OEM paper filter is a start. Even with a flash alone you shouldn't kill MAF's. Keep in mind your car is a 2001 model; that's 11-12 years old depending on the build date. Don't know about you, but I noticed my car developed a slight hesitation on idle and a little bucking off idle. I cleaned my MAF with electronic parts cleaner and honestly didn't notice any difference. I purchased an OEM Bosch replacement for 1/2 the price of the Porsche OEM (bosch - with a Porsche box and $150 upcharge). After installation the hesitation and bucking off idle were gone.

All I can say is that my old MAF made it 11 years and 17K miles; I can't exactly say that's a poor service life of the piece.

I'm guessing at your levels if you replace your MAF with a good quality one you'll not have to worry about it for a long time to come. - So long as you're on oem airbox and paper filter

i use the stock air box and paper filter. no bucking or idle issues at all. Im getting a check light, but sometimes its just P0430 and P0420, and or hose plus MAF. ALong with the PSM and ABS at boost. Ive read if its the MAF all 3 of those lights go off. nothing performance wise is effected though
