996tt compared to late model Lambo
Random info: I've heard that a new clutch in a Diablo runs around $10,000.
The new Gallardo's release is really hammering the Diablo prices. The best Diablos seem to be the 6.0 2001's that Audi had some influence on. The lowest asking price I've seen on the 2001's is around $170,000. Maybe that means you could get it for around $160,000. The Murcielagos are coming down now and are headed for $200,000 really quickly. Asking prices are still $220K plus.

Well I have driven a 94 Diablo VT and was very impressed with the car. It wasn't the monster everyone tries to make it out to be. I will also never forget the sound of that exhaust from the V12, it is the angriest, meanest exhaust I have ever heard!
I have always loved Lambo's from the Countach on and was just curious as to the ownership experience versus the tt. Has the Lambo been pretty reliable? Is there a good owners group or email list like this?
Obviously, the Diablo isn't a daily driver like the tt and they are very different vehicles. But some day I will definately own one!
How about the difference in model years from say 98 to 2001 and things you need to have.
Thanks for any advice!

i would love to have a black murcielago with the creme interior. that car just looks downright MEAN.
Performance-wise i'm pretty sure the 996TT beats the diablo in almost every way, especially with a few engine tweaks. The lambos always strike me more as pieces of art than true sportscars.

Many AWD VT Diablo models are a hair slower than 996 TTs. The AWD VT Diablos usually were trapping around 112-114 MPH. The SV models were RWD and a tad faster. The last year of the SV (1999 I think) was a little faster than the previous SV models. There were at least two revampings of the Diablo's interior including the changes for the 2001 6.0 model. 1999 was the year they changed from flip up to fixed/ clear cover headlights. Here are some of the best performance stats I've seen published for various models:
0-60 0-100 1/4 mile
1989 Countach 4.7 10.5 12.9(@112?)
1999 Diablo VT 4.4 10.4 12.6@115
1999 Diablo SV 3.8 8.0 (12.X@118 guesstimate)
2001 Diablo 6.0 3.4 8.4 11.8@122
2003 Murc. 3.51 8.41 11.72@122.52
0-60 0-100 1/4 mile
1989 Countach 4.7 10.5 12.9(@112?)
1999 Diablo VT 4.4 10.4 12.6@115
1999 Diablo SV 3.8 8.0 (12.X@118 guesstimate)
2001 Diablo 6.0 3.4 8.4 11.8@122
2003 Murc. 3.51 8.41 11.72@122.52

Also, I heard it's best to get a 99 or later vs 98 as they changed dash (same as using currently on the Murc) and also improved the clutch.
Looks wise, the 98-99 VT is the car to get, preformance and reliablity wise, 00-01 6.0 wont disappoint you.
I know a few guys who have 6.0's and will tell you they are incredible.
Muci's are to tamed, I dont like what Audi did to them, they arent as raw and mean as the Diablo.

I sat in a diablo and my *** could not fit in the seat.. very narrow..haha.. also I tried to get my right knee under the steerring wheel and I almos got stuck in the thing...Im 6'3 If I got one I would get the "big man conversion"
I've owned/driven just about everything including a 99 Diablo VT Roadster, a 01 996 TT, and a 96 993TT. My favourite is still the 993TT.
The VT Roadster was 520hp AWD V12.. It was a great machine but I wasn't too impressed with the reliability factor. Mine had leaky cam seal, leaky driver's side header and a bunch of other "smaller" items.. Parts take forever to acquire so if your car does break down, be prepared to wait months for replacement parts.
Clutches and routine maintenance are very expensive (if you think a Ferrari is expensive to maintain, wait until you see the maintenance costs of a Diablo). This of course is all relative because if you can afford the car you should be able to afford the maintenance.
The Lamborghini is a great "weekend" car, but, don't expect it to serve up the relibablity of day-to-day driving that a 993/996 TT will provide.
I really prefer the P-cars because they can be driven all day every day and take the abuse without breakdowns. The Ferraris and Lamborghinis require more delicate care and are more prone to problems.
That's just my $0.02...

y, the Diablo would be in addition to the TT ... TT gives you significant DAILY satisfaction/excitement/adrenaline ... Diablo would be a fun toy every other w/e or so ... plus something to admire in the garage

I don't think I could give up my tt for a Diablo it would have to be an addition to the fleet. Besides in my business I can get away with driving the tt to work but the lambo would be a little over the top!!
Had a 2000 VT for 6 months and was not too happy. Pedals are way to the right, gear shifter came apart in my hand, hand break cable broke, left side rear fan made a terrible noise, two oil leaks that needed the motor to come down, clutch went out in 4K miles, water pump leaked and right side head light wouldn't go down. Besides these few minor problems, the car was nice. The car will nickle and dime you to death. Lots of little problems that make you hate the car. I had a friend who had a 99 and had similar issues.
