Angry Michelin Excuses - What A Joke!

Here is Michelins press release on their Indy disaster.

http://www.sportssystems.com/novell/...host/GN854.pdf

This is such a piece of marketing BS!!!!!

Michelin:

You were there last year! You have data from last year! You not only have test data, you had ACTUAL RACE DATA. The banking in turn 13 hasn't change. You didn't need to run a "simulation", you just had to look at last years data. Ughhhh!!!!!!

Admit your mistakes like a man and take the beating you so deserve. While I was disappointed in your failure at Indy, this lame cover-up attempt is sickening and really makes me angry. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR INCOMPETANCE! - without false excuses.

the banking in the turn has changed.
the track surface is completly different. im not sure if you have seen close ups but it is all diamond cut which means that when the cars go around the corner, the diamond cut effectivly has a cheese grating effect on the tyres, wearing down the sidewalls each lap which inturn causes them to fail.

they screwed the pooch royaly, but as they didnt test on the new surface (like brigestone did using firestone's information) they obviously didnt consider the grooves in the track.

The banking did not change, the surface did. If they said the rougher surface caused the failures, I could understand that (but that is unlikely), but I'm pretty sure the banking is the same, and the speeds were all the same.

true, the banking and speeds did not change ( speed maybe?) but from Bob McMurray, he understands that the failures were caused by the surface and their grateing effect on the tyres. seems like a very plausible explanation as michelin said 10laps was the maximum their tyres could handle, which i understand would come from the gradual wearing of the tyres?

in the statement, does it seem like they offer up a difinitive answer?

If the surface change was the problem, why not say that? And if that is the excuse they want to use, they knew the track was diamond cut and should have known it would be more abrasive than normal. They have no legitimate excuse. They are not telling the truth and it pisses me off. The track was completly diamond ground in 2002 so this is nothing new!

Just for notes, Scott Speed put about 40 laps on his set of Michelins in practice without incident.

im with you, i dont think they are telling the truth and it is bull****. they should as you said in original post own up and face the consequences, take it like a man i geuss would be the term.

but there is obviously a ****load of internal bull**** going on in F1 at the moment that is below the surface. especially with the FIA. max mosely completley humiliated Eccelstone during the past week because i think he knows he has to get the "sport" under control.

the whole fiasco could have been handled alot better by the FIA especially with different proposals to get all the cars racing, but Mosley i geuss didnt want to do te right thing for the "sport" and the fans.

The majority of the problem was with the new surface, but the change from one surface to another in the banking was the cause of the problem. The tires were being torn apart. I take it the reason why you are so pissed Color Change is because you went to the race?

Dude, chill out. Just a tire and a tire company. Who cares if they are lame or win Indy. Not like you need or have Indy tires on your TT.

In light of Michelin's offer to refund ticket prices, I am now VERY PLEASED with their actions and will remain a happy customer.
