Too hardcore for street?

I recently bought a 2001 996 turbo with BBS racing wheels, JRZ 2-way racing suspension, GT2 sport exhaust with 21,200 mi. The car has stock seats and factory seatbelts since the original mods done by speedware motorsports. Project car photos and details can be found at link below. I plan on driving the car primarily on the street. The car handles like it's on rails in smooth conditions but at highspeeds on Ohio roads it jumps like it's flying off the ground when it hits bumps. Do I need to add softer springs to the existing setup or should I buy a new suspension? JRZ is a great suspension hate to remove it! I had KW V3'S on my prior Audi RS6 and loved them. Thanks for the help and all the great info on this forum. http://www.speedwaremotorsports.com/...996-twin-turbo

Reduce the settings in the shocks first. If that doesn't work you might consider softer springs (talk to the builder of the car regarding appropriate spring rates. It would be ashamed to get rid of the JRZ's.

I doubt the springs are the main cause. Can you adjust damping on them? Do you have a anti roll bar that might be set to stiff?

Definitely O/T but I was looking at pictures of your car on the site you linked and wanted to ask a question. Is it a factory sunroof delete option 996TT? I cannot make out a sunroof in any of the pictures.

If so, I'm even more impressed!

First of all, congrats on the purchase that is truly a stunning looking car. Love the wheels and it definitely looks like there isn't a sunroof. So did you have it shipped from Washington or did you enjoy the drive ?

Tech you have to start playing now.

I would start by checking your ride height Vs factory. From the look of the car you have a considerable amount of drop. I would start by taking some compression out. Question number one is can you tell what the car is doing properly.

You have a shock set up that is way more tuneable and much better quality then any PSS 10's or KW's .

Like I said though is your best bet is to add some ride height and get a good alignment then start tuning from there, you are not sprung to terribly hard.

As stated above, you should be able to adjust your JRZ suspension to your liking. Replacing it is unnecessary, and would be a big step down in most cases.

I adjusted the settings to full soft and full hard to feel the difference. The softer settings helped a little. I plan on taking the car to a suspension tuning shop to get things the way I want. I'm pretty sure I will be able to keep the JRZ's, just need to get things sorted out. My car does have the delete sunroof option, she's fast and light! Thanks for your help. I'll keep you posted on what I end up doing.

As suggested, raise the car a little bit, even 1/2 inch will be a major difference and it will save your spoiler from scraping too. If everything else fails... go down to 18 inch rims, difference is day and night. You can buy an 18 inch Turbo set for around 750 bucks in good shape. Get some decent tires on it and you are good to go. Then buy a lift so you can swap the tires quickly and effortless...then check out the trailers and that Cayenne Turbo to pull it... you know the drill.LOL
