Code 9 Question

I recently got the Durametric software (l think it's great), and pulled codes from my car.

One code that I was unable to clear is:

9 - Hall sensor backrest adj. Short circuit

Do you guys have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this one?

I know that recently the passenger side electric seat adjust was having trouble. The height adjust for the rear part of the seat was not working. It was repaired. The mechanic indicated that some of the wires had come disconnected, and I believe the fix was as simple as removing the seat and reconnecting the connections. (I don't believe any parts were added or replaced.) It's been working fine since then. My guess is that the code has something do with this, but I'm not sure.

Would love any help getting it sorted out!

Thanks!

It looks pretty straight-forward from the error code. The code says there is a short circuit in the backrest adjustment. I would start by looking at the connectors for the seat and move to the switches next. If someone has been working in there, that's probably where it happened.

A short circuit is the opposite of disconnected wires - now you have wires touching each other that should not be.

Thanks

That makes sense. Does the code indicate which seat is having the issue?

I'll search for some diy info on how to remove and/or inspect the seat(s).

Thanks.

This is the diagnostic page for your code. Has mention by Slider it is straight forward troubleshooting. But some people mention in the past humidity on the floor even water. I hope it is not your case. May be a good clean up of your under seat plug with a good contact cleaner can be your solution. This is the wiring diagram for the 2002 model. We can see two plugs, one under the seat and one in the seat itself. Wire plug under the seat, connector A1 and A5 are the one supplying voltage to the seat power switch and after gray/black wire and gray/green wire supply voltage to the backrest motor....

Getting the seat out is pretty easy - 4 bolts (2 front 2 back). They are Torx but I think a 10mm socket works too. On the front, you have to slide out the little plastic cover first - but that's all there is to it. If you leave the seat back pretty far forward, you can just tip the whole seat backwards to reveal the connectors underneath.

Ok. After some troubleshooting I'm not sure I've made any progress. I removed both seats and visually inspected the connectors/motors--disconnected and reconnected/cleaned.

I did not find anything that seemed like a problem to me (I did not use a volt meter to test any specific connections.)...

However, when I re-ran the error codes, it swapped the error code to a:

code 10 - Hall sensor height adj. Open circuit at front.

(used to be code 9 -Hall sensor backrest adj. Short circuit)

Everything still seems to work fine in terms of the seat adjustments functioning in all directions.

Any ides on what this changing code might indicate?

That sure sounds like a flaky connector... (Short circuit before, open circuit now, different circuits)
