Reality Check,Torn OR When to be Satisfied?
Reality Check,Torn OR When to be Satisfied?
Hey Guys,,I think I am at the point in which I believe others have crossed this road also..
I went through the mod stages ,with starting with my car starting as stock ,for 4+ yrs and 30,000+ miles..My car is a daily driver,on 93pump gas only.
The money is not the main reason here, When is it time to stop and enjoy what you have And stop wasting time with this disease.
I am very happy with all my mods and the way the car performs,,see my below signature, after 3 tuners later and all my dyno time..
All the time into the car seems like it was more work then the money it cost me..
Now I am at the cross roads of doing a cat delete pipe and 3071 turbos, then the tweeking/dynoing time with it.
Do I need it ? NO..Can I have it done ? Yes..And then I say I will be finally done,,Again..
Really if I never was on this site, after I was finished with my K24/18 set-up, I would never have considered it..LOL..The gearhead disease..
Besides I just put my retirement papers in for next year, after 33 yrs on the Chicago Fire Dept,so I will not have clout after that anymore when I get pulled over for speeding anymore..

once you hit that level you'll have to rebuild you motor.. just call it a day, or put that $ into a new car??.. take that $ and go travel the world. research has show $ spent on good times have much further impact on well being than on stuff.. good luck john.. remember porsche is a personality, not just a car..
You really are making this hard for me..
I'd leave it as-is if I were you. You've got a powerful enough car for a daily driver, doing more is just overkill and unnecessary IMO. If you were talking about a dedicated track car, that's different. But it sounds to me like you may just need a different project, rather than change your current car again.
John
If I was in your situation I'd consider purchasing another car
Keep the Porsche as is, and spend the money (if you really want to) on an additional car
A faster Pcar is always nice, but having another car has to be nicer?
That's my opinion
I've currently decided to stop spending money on my Turbo and instead I'm focussing on getting my Triumph GT6 back on the road

any thoughts on leaving the engine as it is and focus on the rest of the driveline for performance ( new clutch, lsd in the rear, stout axles etc.) and then work the interior for a full custom inside and maybe full gt2 style outside? you get to keep making the car your personal rocket without spending everything in the engine bay

It all works together good enough for me and my driving limits/style..
So,If its not broken, it doesnt need to be updated yet..

Thanks..
with the power your putting down theres so much more of the car you can get creative with.
That would open up a whole new can of worms with this older technology.I dont need to go there to enjoy the car more,I enjoy it enough now BUT more power is always welcome to me..
I was thinking about changing the turbos on my car recently! After lots of thought I think I am going to leave my Turbo as is and pick up a used GT-R to play with! Another car would be my advice to you! You can never have to many! :-)
I'm with the people that say you should buy another car. I'm not quite at your level with my Turbo, but it certainly is very highly modded and there's really not a lot left to do. So I just bought a '13 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon to replace my '11 STI, which was just lightly modded. But that was my second STI and the second time around the modding wasn't as fun. This is my second Jeep, but the first one was my ex-wife's and didn't get modded at all. This one already has $3k in mods within the first week! And I have another car with major mods and a new snowmobile that I'm heavily modding too. That is a really fun project by itself! I don't suppose you're into snowmobiles? They're a very fun machine to not only ride but also to mod!
If your planning to just stick with pump fuel, the difference in power will be negligible. 3071's won't make much more than your 626whp on pump.
I only make 650whp with Markski's custom 30's on pump fuel.
Unless you run an E85 system or race fuel you won't see 700whp...
626rwhp is amazing power from 18g's on pump fuel, and with that torque it must be great to drive.
I personally wouldn't change unless you are going to be using it at some events with race fuel or E85...

With Protomotives tune I run 1.4 bars on pump gas but I do have a good fuel system..Those numbers were on his Dynapack whch might be a tad high due to the fact the wheels are removed?
John,
I have done the same thing as you and am very satisfied at the K24/18G with full supporting mods level. I modded more and more from 2002 when I purchased the car up until about 3 years ago. 3 years ago, after a custom tune, I reached a point where my car is dialed in perfectly and runs absolutley fantastic. It's very quick and super responsive to throttle input, has suspension and sway bars, motor mounts, etc. and I am just enjoying it as a great car to drive! I seldom even think about upgrading it and when I do, I rule it out quickly, as I don't want to mess with the reliability and perfection I have achieved. I have reached a very "satisfied" point with this car and it's a nice feeling to just drive it and enjoy it for what it is...of course having a fantastic sounding exhaust helps tremendously with the driving enjoyment and satisfaction of ownership :-)
All that said, I think you should embrace what you have and enjoy it for a while...you are at a very nice level.
