New Gas Station Offers 104 Octane for $4.33 Per Gallon . . . . In My Garage
Craig,
I considered this as well and decided against it for all of the reasons stated. In addition, I want to enlighten you of another matter.
It is called deflagration venting. Basically it is, in a nutshell, explosion resistance. As a structural engineer, I have designed deflagration venting facilities for my large pharmaceutical clients. They consist of fortified buildings, typically of concrete construction, that will sustain at least 100 pounds per square foot of explosive stress on the internal surfaces while providing a pre-engineered means of venting the excess pressure that develops. These means can be blow off panels on the walls or roof. They are typically located on sides of the building that will not injure a passerby.
You alluded to a "fireproof cabinet". I cannot stress enough that a fireproof cabinet and an explosion resistant structure, with proper deflagration venting, are two markedly different things. If a flame ignites the vapors in the confined area between your drum(s) and cabinet or in the extra space within the drum above the current level of fuel remaining, you will have an explosion on your hands. That explosion will completly destroy your "fireproof cabinet" as well as a portion of your house.
Food for thought.
Do you have kids?
