I need a Clutch - need help
I'm definitely no clutch expert but you should ask yourself what your goals are with this new clutch. Meaning, stuff like this:
1. OEM like driveability or are you OK with a stiffer pedal?
2. Lightweight flywheel or more OEM experience for shifting, launching?
3. Power/torque rating for future modifications planned?
4. GT2 slave conversion under consideration? More parts required of course.
I can tell you from other automotive applications that clutches are largely about trade-offs, and you want to do your research first to ensure you're buying the right product(s) to meet your needs.
On a Supra I used to own I fell into the 'listen to everyone blindly on the internet' camp about bought an Exedy twin disc carbon clutch for that car with a lightweight flywheel. I absolutely hated it with a passion from the first drive, and got rid of it for a more OEM based upgraded setup a few months later.
Since the clutch is one of your biggest interface points with the car, it's a modification that has to be carefully considered with regard to what your vision of the car is going to be. This is doubly true with the 996TT since the clutch solutions are quite expensive, even for OEM replacement parts.
Good luck to you!

You will not have any problems at that level.. Mine holds 600 to the wheels and I drive hard and feels close to stock.
My signature doesn't show on this mobile usage to show what I have.

I have to call sachs performance tomorrow to confirm that the SRE Performance Clutch Pro part #999764.001098 is the right kit, but thanks to your replies you helped me make my mind up.
Still I have noticed the price between different kits is significant. The sachs one looks to be about 1200 US but what makes a $3k clutch so much better? Not trying to ruffle feathers just sincerely interested to know.

6speed family,
Check out our site for Sachs Racing info. We just lowered the price of our lightweight flywheels. We had to do a little adjustment on the Sachs 2.5 kit, but it went up less than $100. No biggie...

As far as shops in the area go......on the Jersey side there's Provost up by Trenton, over in the western suburbs of Philly there are a couple of good choices. Possum Hollow (Phoenixville), Vintage (Pottstown), Dougherty (West Chester), AWE (Willow Grove). I use Possum Hollow and Vintage.
No matter who you choose I would talk to them about direction before you buy the kit and drop it in their lap.

Right from Sachs Performance, overseas.
But alot of people here sell the heavier 999 PP and the GT2 disc which is a good choice. Though Sachs Performance has a special material one. Bought my throw out bearing from Automation which they are all the same.

Just find a good shop, just went thru my first time with a shop doing my Sachs 707PP, Spec Stg3+ and LWF on my S6 and it had to all come back out cause it wasnt working right. Slave may not have been installed properly.
Just wanted to thank every one who responded to my post. My 996tt is in the shop right now getting the clutch (thanks AWE for the help with the Sachs stage 2.5) replaced (as well as the spark plugs and serpentine belt). I can't wait to get it back.
Thank you for the help! Appreciate it! This is a great community and I can't say enough about my experiences here.
Shame we can't have 6speedonline Saturday morning coffee and cars!

Call up Kevin from UMW. I would avoid the fiber tough clutch if you're not looking to make massive power. I ended up with some GT3 RS lightweight flywheel and some kind of modded sachs clutch and it's smooth as butter and easily driveable, but can hold like 600 hp at the crank. It's paired with some of his bigger power kits.
Fiber tough is for heavier launches and high hp which I had no desire to do. It will be very grabby and probably annoy you.
