Turns out, the help might not be necessary... Went to get a tune, and the spark plugs needed to be replaced. Reflashed back to stock, and getting new plugs in on Monday...

On the way home, got the 2nd gear popout Might just deal with it...sigh.

If it is only the beginning of the second gear pop out you should look at installing the G box gear detent.

Well...there's no telling if it's just the beginning since I got it with 37K miles on it already, but I can't make it happen on demand (although it happened again today when I WASN'T trying to reproduce it). Regardless, I emailed gbox last night since I didn't see a way to order online.

Thanks for the reply...hopefully soon I'll catch up on any issues with the car and it'll be routine maintenance after that.

Congrats on your new ride! You can't order through gbox site only on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/PORSCHE-TRAN...480231&vxp=mtr.

I recently got the 2nd gear pop out curse it happened one day on way home from work while decelerating in my neighborhood around 15 mph it bothered me so I went to replicate it again doing 2nd gear pulls to 6000 rpm and letting it coast on the 8th try it popped out again. So I dropped it off at my local Porsche indy shop the next morning and they drained the transmission oil it was original from 2001 and they said the fluid looked brand new and no flakes whatsoever on the drain plug I was surprised because I was expecting some flakes. So I ordered the gbox detent on ebay and had the shop install it I was hoping it would fix the issue since I took it in the next day, keep in mind I've had my car for 4 years bought with 11,000 miles and currently has 31,000 and only had it pop out twice before taking it in to install the detent. Long story short Wednesday night on the way home leaving the parking lot around 10mph it popped out or I should say slid out like butter no jerking . So Gbox can fix 2nd gear popout around $2500-3000 depending whats going on and shipping is $200-$400 each way to them and around 10 hours labor for a shop to pull it/install again and put on a pallet to be shipped. Or you can live with it as I am told it will not pop out under load only when decelerating so you can hold the shifter every time in 2nd and it wont pop that's the cheap fix. Gbox said it won't harm any other gears if you just decide to live with it or the transmission itself but it will keep getting worse and happen more often. If it happens a few more times I am going to send it to gbox they seem to be the most knowledgeable. I am hoping I just didn't have it completely in gear so always make sure you shift with the clutch all the way to floor to get the best engagement in 2nd. Enjoy your new ride.

Thanks for the item link, ordered one. And yeah...after looking through other threads, I noticed people complaining about the price jump. I _guess_ you can charge whatever you want if you're the only one making the part...

Whatever though, cheaper than a tranny rebuild...here's hoping it works. Thanks for the input, guys.

gl with the 2nd gear issue. i've had it twice and couldn't know more about it unless i could fix it myself. hated it. you have two choices. rebuild it, or keep your hand on the shifter when messing around in 2nd esp downhill.

alternately you can try the gbox dtent as many have been able to stop gap the issue with it, but that was not going to be an option for me. the bottom line is the gear/synchro/dogring etc is rounded. it's a rebuild you need, sorry to say.

Yeah, I was afraid someone would say that. I'm going to go for the band-aid approach for now, though. It feels dirty having to drop 4-6K (or more?) on a tranny rebuild when I just bought the damn car....I'll learn to deal with it for the time being.

i hear ya. i cringed when i read you had just bought the car. the truth is, you can live with it even if the detent isn't effective but for the 75 bucks i'd try it too. the issue is mostly just an annoyance, and you'l remember never to count on it staying in 2nd under load. mine actually popped out once going UPhill. congrats on the car though. they are a blast as i'm sure you've found.

Yeah, I'm going to take it easy on the car until I get the detent and hopefully not make it any worse. A minor annoyance, but totally worth it for having such a sick car, imo.
