Good info Port Hunt. Sounds like the way to go with replacing the voltage reg. myself with added benefit of changing the brushes too. I'm going to assume the diode bridge was ok. Thanks for info........

The bridge was fine, I've replaced the voltage regs in a couple Audi's and my Porsche now. Seems to be a typical failing point for these alternators from what I've read, not saying that diode failure would be impossible though, just improbable.

Auto zone for 240$. My dad rebuilt the one I took out . He put in new bearings and rebuilt the voltage regular . Have one on the shelf now.
