Gonna buy one...but which?
If you are like Porka (like having sex in a car), go with the Tip so you can have a free hand. If you drive like f1crazydriver, you'd need a 6 speed or maybe double that. If you are like NorCalTurbo, you need neither because you don't have time to drive it anyway.
On a serious note... the Tip is pretty much max'd out with gt660; you'll need a tranny built if you want more power. GT660 is a great all around kit with great low-end plus decent high-end. For the K24, get ready to put more money into it; there are rooms to grow.
Out of the box (current state) between two cars, gt660 is a faster car and you'll have more fun but it has less potential.
Some say Tip is lack of connection to the car, but I have never felt disconnected. If you ever decided to get the Tip; before you purchase, make sure you do some good runs to ensure there is no slipping on the tranny.

I know I've got to get her out more. I haven't seen any of you bay area guys in forever

perfect assessment. I have driven Eugene's car, your car has so much power that you NEED to focus on driving vs. rowing gears. At least for my type of "driving"...which is different then most. I didn't feel disconnected with your car from 3-4 turns i took it through
.

I knew I should have gone with you on your test drive.

imo you will have more fun in the manual, even though it currently has less power, you can add more power later, and no matter how much it has now, you will always want more
So I have pretty much bagged the tip idea. Its crazy every time I think I have decided another on pops up for sale that I feel like I have to check out.
Hopefully I'll have a decision made soon

consider finding a bone stock 996 tt with a healthy engine even with miles on it (and score it cheap) and do your own mods slowly. I will avoid buying a car with lots of bolt ons that are weak and did not work. Budget for a strong clutch,a good stand alone ECU preferably with flex fuel sensor capability, injectors, and other small items and get close to 500+awhp, and if u have extra $$$ go for a set of Precision 55/58, Raceware head studs, and upgraded rods to support upward 800 awhp.
If you HAVE to have an auto, go with the Tip. otherwise, manual...hands down. Tip will start to fail at 500whp. Trust me, with this car, 500whp will get old fast. Plan on spending $6k-$8k on a GOOD Tip rebuild. Put a GOOD clutch in a manual and it will last as long as you want it too, as well as the transmission, as long as you don't TRY to kill it.
I guess I am the odd man out. I enjoy the heck out of my car and bought the Tip by preference. I just don't need to constantly shift to enjoy the car. It's fast and stable and fun and reliable. That's what I wanted.
I've owned a lot of manual cars. Just don't need one anymore. I would have gone with the GT660 in a heartbeat.

i'm new to the P world and not really familiar with what's proven out there with the Tips but what's the capabilty of a full modded Tip tranny, name of shop, and cost? I have a manual now just in case a Tip comes along. Thanks
I think Todd K from protomotive is the only person in the states that can upgrade the tip? Everyone ships theirs to Germany? Remember the tip is an AMG tranny. If this helps in your decision process.
