A set of hankooks is about $700. Sumitomo HRZ IIIs are $600. Add about $100 for install.

You'll get roughly 90% of the grip of high end tires.

yeah, and worth every dime lol. since we're talking about a mythical 10%... the 10% of grip you'll be missing from hankook's, is the 10% you'll want. though ymmv

Sadly, I don't even have a car now. If i do manage to get a 996tt or 997CS, this would be a major accomplishment for me since i have no car now, and many folks drive non Porsches like Genesis, Mustang, etc

I do purely street driving. Mixture of highway and some semi-spirited back road driving. For my driving style I've never felt the need for that last 10% of grip.

But of course it's going to depend greatly on ones needs and driving style. For me personally, it's a worthwhile savings.

i agree. my experience with hankook v12's is that they are fine for normal street driving. but who does just that? kidding. i'd like to try the rs3s though.

IMO if you aren't driving the car to use what the Pilot Super Sports provide over the V12's you might as well drive a less expensive/lower performing car.

I doubt on most days I ever get up above 70 miles an hour. There's a lot of traffic around here, a lot of tourists going wine-tasting and mostly single lane with not a lot of passing.

At the end of the day for me personally,

I love the sound of my new Speedtech Exhaust.
I love the feeling of the boost even in 2nd gear and even at 40 miles an hour.
I love having the top down on a sunny day.
I love the history and provenance of the Porsche.
I love the fit and finish.
I love the build quality and feeling of the car.

I'm never going to push the limits required for high-end tires but I still look forward to each and every time I get in my Porsche even if it's just an excuse to fill up with gas.

I've got my140hp Rav4 to use instead of the Bart for day-to-day commuting LOL

You want to make your Porsche feel fast? Hop in your Porsche right after getting out of your Rav4

On my favorite roads I don't get up to 70 mph but when I take those hair pin turns I'm happy I have that extra bit of grip from my PSS's.

If you are thinking of saving to buy a 996tt or a gallardo in a few years as your first car, I think you would be much better off buying something more reasonable in terms of performance. I don't know your driving situation (first car?? First car in a while? Ride motorcycle? Bike to work?) but if you're not familiar or comfortable with the potential money pits that a 10+ year old $125k car can bring, I have a feeling you're going to be in for a big surprise.

Only reason I say that is because you really seem to be trying to calculate things down the road that, and lets be honest here, you don't have much control over what you're asking.

You're asking very specific questions, and hoping that a blanket statement (or individual's personal experiences) will give you piece of mind. Whatever car you do end up buying, you have no idea what might happen. A car can have the best PPI out of the bunch and a random part after random part will fail, and that would be devastating to somebody that's trying to stretch every dollar.

If you don't have a car now, ANYTHING is going to be an upgrade - set aside what you would have put towards a more expensive car & leverage that towards making those more expensive cars more attainable long term. You sound like you're trying to think long term, but you are being short sighted on some things. If you buy a manual, and this is your first car, are you sure you want to learn on something that's going to be this expensive to replace the clutch on?

Whatever you do decide on doing in 3 years, the effort your putting into a bunch of hypotheticals about your first car might not be the best allocation of your time.

OP, not sure if you're trolling.

Gallardo? http://www.lamborghini-talk.com/vbfo...allardo-23454/

it's your first car. Anything is going to be awesome. Why not learn to walk before you try to run?

also, you should really learn to find what YOU like, rather than what a forum tells you that you will like
