Need Help... (Tech question)
Need Help... (Tech question)
Hi guys,
I don't know why, but my car is not willing to take any gas
I tried to add gas to it, and I know the tank is empty...
but it just kept on spilling over... and I had to feed it little by little... untill the tank is full...
Todd or Stephen...
do you guys know where went wrong?
I assume it's not related to the fuel injection system I did is it? b/c the car was running fine...
or any parts might got loosen up?

It might be that particular gas station, have you tried other places? I believe there's a sensor on the nozzle. I had a similar problem when I was in Phoenix on that particular gas station. I end up holding the nozzle at a certain way.

But seriously is this just at one pump or all the time?
I'd be willing to bet the fuel pump came loose from the bottom of the fuel tank, etc.
Something obviously came loose/broke
'03 turbo..
call 800porsche and have em tow it into the dealer,
its under warranty

Did Joan buy the extended warranty? I bet she didn't. Oh well, she can always trade you in.

I hope it checks out ok.. I think Brian hit the nail on the head tho...
There is a solenoid switch at the gas tank neck. You can hear it activate if you take off the gas cap and press the moveable metal flap with a screwdriver. If you push the metal door open, and move it slightly one way or the other, you will hear the solenoid clicking. I am not sure what this does but undoubtedly it is emissions related.
I have experienced this problem if I am trying to put race gas into the tank with certain types of gas cans. I find that if I stick the screwdriver in the hole and hold it at a particular angle, it will accept the gas from a can. You might try this at the gas station along with holding back the rubber bootie on the pump.
My cursory nderstanding is that it relates to the volatile vapor recovery measures that the car and pump have to employ to comply with US emissions standards.
I have found the symptoms to be sporadic and relatively rare.

Oh, I nearly forgot. As best as I can tell, the point of the solenoid is to close off a valve at the tank so that the gas is only allowed to fill up the neck. Once you remove the pump, the metal door closes, it senses a closed system and will allow the accumulated gas in the neck to drain into the tank.
Reinsert the pump and you can fill up the neck again.
