996tt Brake upgrade

Hey guys,

The stock brakes don't give me enough confidence so I am looking to upgrade.

I track the car a couple times a year.
Mostly street use.

Are the 350mm GT2 brakes my best bang for buck?

Where can I purchase them as a set?

Thanks for any input!

How so? Are you boiling fluid? The stock brakes are more than adequate for the street and occasional track use. You have three options if you want to use bolt on Porsche brakes:

1. Stock 4 piston f/r with 330/330 rotors

2. 996 GT2/3 6 piston front 4 piston rear with 350/350 rotors

3. 997.2 GT2/3 6piston front 4 piston rear with 380/350 rotors and 997 GT3 brake master cylinder.

I currently run option 3 and find it vastly superior to option 2 at the track. I don't see how you would need more than option 2 on the street as even that is overkill. You can get any of those systems through your dealer or on the 2nd hand market from time to time.

Stage 3 is the stuff of dreams.

Will it clear any 18" wheels?

There are only a handful of 18" wheels that will clear the 380 set up. You generally need an 18x9 front wheel. I run 18x9/18x12 CCW C10 forged wheels as my track set up and the fronts clear by about 3/16". These wheels are built around this set up.

I'm curious on the #3 stuff. Did you ever run option #2 with the larger Master cylinder?

Also -- #1 is fine for occasional track use (if you run good fresh fluid, pads that aren't too aggressive, and good cooling ducts GT2 big boys) you don't need a monster kit for a couple of HPDE/year.

I ran #2 with the stock master but I was never satisfied with the firmness of the pedal especially after driving a friends 997GT3. With #2 I also ran Endless fluid (stock fill in Cup cars) with PFC pads and Cup car brake ducting. #3 just has a a lot more thermal dissipating capacity than #2 due to the 380 rotors. Another option which would be between #2 and 3 would be to run the 996 GT2/3 6 piston fronts with the larger 997GT2/3 rear calipers and 350/350 rotors but you would need the 997 master to stiffen up the pedal. This would shift the brake bias to the rear which the 996tt desperately needs.

One of the issues with brakes on these cars is that I HAVE to be able to fit
the brakes under 18" wheels.

The roads here eat up 19" wheels.

Im guessing option 2 is this set:
http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...tbrakeupgrades

Plus the stock rear calipers with bigger rotors?

Am I getting this right?

I like the 996 GT3 kit as well. Many pads available too. You can also run the Brembo 14" with the Monoblock 6 pistons too for a few bucks more. They will fit over aggressive 18" wheels. Then you get larger pistons and 2pc rotors. OZ wheels are nice, light and cheap.

Turkish,

Stage 1
-Get some race pads.PFC's or Endless.
-Change to Motul or Endless brake fluid
-Get gt2 or go cheap and gt3 brake ducs for front

If you are having brake problems after that.

Stage 2
-2 pc rotors. 350mm front and rear. Use spacers to space out calipers out.

IF STILL problems* BUT*

Stage 3
-Get the 6/4 calipers from gt2/3. and remove the spacers.

( The gt2/3 calipers only help for endurance, not stopping power)

BUT*

If you feel by stage 2, that their is not enough.... skip Stage 3, gt2/3 calipers..

Stage 4
-Then you are really 10/10's every lap, in that case get some racing brakes system.

IF still problems.

Stage 5
-Less brakes more accelerator.
