So, everyone was screaming bloody murder when the tt had just came out, and dealers were asking $50k over list. So now, they're dropping in price and again everyone's screaming. If you guys wanted "exclusivity", get a Lotus. No one would be worrying about seeing too many of them. So, when you say Porsche built too many of them, you also mean, that there are too many people who enjoy this vehicle. That also means that you don't want as many people to marvel over this wonderful car as much as they are. Which means also, that the amount of people that are on this board, you'd like to see umm halved? Quartered?
Unless, you *gasp* want to be in an exclusive club where you get to chum around with some buddies knowing that your car's still a big ticket item, and that not as many people can say they've got one. But you didn't get the car for that reason right? You got it because of the performance, the build quality/reliability, the practicality of it. I mean, you weren't looking at it like a mutual fund were you?
Were you?

haha. I know right? I just got tired of everyone saying "ohhh my tt resale" I'm taking a hit too, but it's a part of the ownership experience. and I'm still not so sure that they overproduced the car. When you have full bodied (heavy) sedans that have the same power output of this car. It kind of hurts the car's value. I mean, you've got a wife nagging you because of your sports car, saying the kids need braces or she needs drapes or stuff like that. You're gonna get an e55 just to keep her quiet, AND you get to have your performance too. I'm glad Porsche was able to sell as many cars as it has. I'm glad the Cayenne was a success (it is right...not sure w the numbers). It just makes Porsche that much richer to weather a few bad years, and still lines the pockets for R&D funds. Sell a million of them next year!!!

Maaaan...talk about over kill. One of the great vertues of the 911 used to be it's amazing retention of value. I think up to the 993, a Porsche 911 was the leading car in resale value. Many buyers were very proud of this fact and which added a greater sense of ownership to the car. A 911 was the Rolex of cars when it came to resale. Then came the 996 era....a wonderful car no doubt...however, it was very obvious Porsche was going down a new road. The Lexus guys had peed in the pool and profit was put before anything else. The whole thinking at Porsche was different.....that specialness was a little gone in a way. Don't get me wrong, I still love the mark and I don't think it's gone far enough left for me to buy a Lotus....but, it's not the same. I think Porsche realizes this and is going in the right direction with the 997. Speaking of mutual funds....any tips you can shoot my way?

yeah, you're right. The 911s had the best resell value. And for a while, it was cause no one really wanted a porsche except for die hard purists. Porsche used to have a TOUGH time selling 911s here for most of the 80s and 90s. Resell/resale value was up, but their sales were way down. So do I like seeing a 993tt the same price as a 996tt? Nope, but right now, that's what the market is telling us this car is worth. Is it also a coincidence that the 993 was the last true 911 body style? hmmmm
As for mutual funds, here's my tip. Stay away from them! 75% of them underperform the S&P.
