996 Door Latch

When I open the driver side door, either by using the outer or inside handle, the window drops down about an 1/8" like it is supposed to but the window immediately rises back up even when the door is open.

I assume the microswitch in the door has failed but my understanding is you can't buy the switch by itself. You have to buy the entire door latch. Does anyone have the OEM part number for the drivers door? I've done several searches and have looked through the shop manual but no luck.

Thanks.

Have you tried to re-train the window? Basically move it all the way down, hold button 10 seconds, move it all the way up and hold for 10 seconds I believe.

I had to have mine replaced. I'll dig up the work order for the part # as well.

I just replaced my door lock mechanism for the same thing last week. It's a pretty straight forward fix.

That is an Audi or VW number. Try those dealerships before going to a P car dealer. Maybe less $$$.

i replaced the microswitch on my door and it didnt fix it. i then bought a used latch assy and it fixed the issue but then the door wouldnt lock. bought a new assy and it fixed everything. by the time i was done dinking around i spent more than a new latch would have cost.

Similar issue 1.5 years ago. Replaced the latch assembly and all is good again. Microswitch did NOT fix the issue.

I replaced the latch today and it fixed the problem. The install was a bit harder than I anticipated but it's done and works great.

However, upon startup of the car my airbag warning light came on after about a minute. I had to take out the side air bag to replace the latch so presumably I disturbed something in the side air bag. I put the connector back on but the small purple weather jacket that is on the connector broke off. However the connector still connects fine. Could this cause the issue? I doubt it but not sure what else it could be. Any thoughts?

The battery should be disconnected for a while before fooling with the bags and you should touch to ground to discharge static electricity.

When I say touch to ground to discharge electrical static to clarify I'm talking about your physical body= hand etc.

I didn't remove the airbag for mine, but did loosen one of the bolts holding the airbag to the metal brace behind the door panel for proper access. The brace has to be removed. Once you disconnect an airbag, the only way to reset it is via the dealer scanner - not sure if a Durametric works for airbag lights or not. You can try to disconnect the battery to see if it helps clear the code.

Well it was worth the try; however, did not work. Setting an appointment to the dealership. :/
