997 owner looking at 996TT
SubscribeThese are the lights that killed it. The facelift lights like we have are fine.

ya, those are truly hideous.

I guess we are all different. I think the 996 interior looks cheap, can't stand it. One of the reason I didn't buy one. Would not want to be in it for an extended time. The revised headlights is fine to me but the previous lights were atrocious. But the 996tt is a great value and with the techart body kit, it's a great looking car.Originally Posted by rmc1148
I could have bought a newer 911 or any car for that matter but as soon as I sat in a 997 I hated the interior to me being very flat and cheaper looking then the 996= but hey I admit I'm old school and still love the looks of the mk2 GLI interior. The bottom line is to each his own who can tell the man what he likes or what he wants that is one of the few good things left in the USA.
A full leather 996 interior with paint looks great IMO. base 997 interiors are cheap and some say even cheaper looking. Mine with painted centre console, dash strips and aluminum/carbon bits look just great. Overall the newer full leather 997 are nicer but a well done 996 is a great place to be.
I've actually grown to like the pre-facelift headlights when paired with the aero/GT3 bumper. I think it looks aggresive and a bit retro.

Sorry but it looks like an old woman who's been crying. Or someone with bags under their eyes..........
Since i'm one of those jumping from a 997 C2S to 996tt i admit that these are two different vehicles. The 997 was an easy to drive real wheel (fun) touring car. The turbo for me is a car that i don't think i will get bored driving it.....and there is no comparison between them. I liked a lot the interior and exterior looking of the 997 but i do the same for the 996tt. At the end of the day what matters (at least to me) is boost....

lol only thing I hate about the 996 is the ****ing cabin... forget the plasticness & cheapness it's the fact that I feel claustrophobic in it... and I am tall the seat wont go down the way a 997 does... aside from that it's awesome feels alot more rugged than a 997... the 996 feels like a go cartOriginally Posted by metzos

I'm always surprised when people say the 996tt has a cheap interior. I think it is pretty decent. Plain, but of good quality. The quality of the center console leaves a little to be desired but everything else is solid and rattle free and covered in leather. What more could you want in a sports car? Genuine whale ***** leather like that Russian SUV from a few years back?

Anyway, that's all a long windup for my question: my only reservation about the 996TT is that the 996s I've driven have all seemed to have some squeaks and rattles. I might not be able to test drive my car (I'd only buy from a Porsche dealer or very well respected independent dealer and want it to have 30K miles or less, so my selection is limited and I may buy online) and I am just curious if you've noticed anything like that. I know the turbo is generally built a bit more solidly than the regular models, so I'm hoping that's less of an issue. I'll obviously try to get as much of an assurance as I can when buying one.
Also, I've read all the threads on here, but any other bits of wisdom you guys have are much appreciated, even if they're repetitive of what's in other threads.
And, yes, I looked at the 997 TT, but I can't get past those fugly LED light sticks it has strapped to the grill that look like they were lifted out of a rave or something. And people complain the 996's headlights...
I think my body creaks, squeaks and makes weird noises much more than my Turbo Originally Posted by neotorque
