Removing airbag crest???

I just recieved a silver airbag crest from Ralph Boothe...but I have no idea how to remove it!!! I've heard it's held with some double sided tape...but I can't get it off... I've wasted 1/2 a roll of floss, and exhausted my poor putty knife... I went and bought some "goo-off" at home depot during lunch...but I don't want to try it unless I really have to...

Any suggestion guys/gals???? THANKS!!!

Don't do it....swap the whole air bag. Send the badge back to booth and order a new air bag from Gert or By Design. Sell you'r air bag on e-bay. Almost a direct swap..

Huh...swap the whole airbag??? Is that necessary??? I never go the cheap route...but airbag swap sounds overkill just to get the silver crest. Even if you buy a new airbag unit...don't they just change the crest too...Airbag with silver crest isn't a OEM part right???

Andrew: I'm not sure how much just the silver airbag crest was...I puchased HRE silver center caps, polished wheel bolts, hood crest and airbag crest. I didn't even look at the bill yet. But the polished caps do look great!!! Same one Eric (ESK) has on his TT cab.

Chris...It's a safety issue. I am not sure if the crest has an attachment from inside the air bag cover. I heard it's very difficult to remove the stock one without damaging the unit. That's the last thing you want to damage as far as safety is concerned. I think almost everyone who has the silver crest has swapped the air bag too. This is why you mostly see the silver crested air bag sold as one single unit.

THX...996turbo. If I can't get it off safely, then I'll buy a new airbag. Of course I will not exchange a few hundred dollars with my life.

Just recieved an e-mail from Ralph...He told me to glue the silver crest over the existing gold one. I will do that until I can get a new airbag from Gert.

Thanks everyone!!!!

I was told that NRauto.com will exchange a gold crested leather airbag for a silver one for 175.00. They will only do a leather bag. It is not listed on their website, but i'm told it is in their catalog. If this is the case it seems like a good deal.

Chris, I wouldn't do that. The last thing you need when the air bag goes off, is a Porsche crest coming unglued and heading towards you at sub sonic speed.

Understand, I was just pointing out for others that if NRauto did the swap it seemed to be a good deal. For 175 and not having to worry about selling the gold crested bag. I would jump on it.

Also they are in CA.

Hit something real hard. The crest is riveted on.

The 2000 Boxster S was the only Boxster that came with a silver crest, then it went to a colored crest. Some Boxster owner will trade you air bags, even. When I priced a 3 spoke steering wheel and air bag to replace my 4 spoke on my old Boxster a few years ago the silver crested air bag cost more. Jeff
