if youre 18 you should be 235/315
19, your ideal set up would be a 245 35 and a 305 30.

Ah. Well, I'll live with the minor discrepancy for now until I swap up to a newer one. My boss just took delivery on a 2014 Turbo S; told him I wanted to be first in line for his "sloppy seconds"...

Yup. That's what I'll be doing. Lots of options too, which is nice, but I think the Michelin pilot Super Sports are going to be the winner.

absolutely. if youre not going to track tires, michelin PSS are by far the best choice for 2 reasons
#1 grip
#2 treadwear rating is AMAZING.

ive got pss's on my turbo. 12k miles on them and theres still a decent amount of life in them.

Last months Hot Rod magazine had a high performance tire shoot out in which it was slalom track racing times,,not drag racing believe it or not..
It was a very good and non bias test,,,Check it out..Good Read..
I am not a track roadracer . I love everything about Conti DWs in my size, especially the price..

Good to know; I've got 15K on my PS2s and the rear ones are toast.

Tires-easy.com currently has their Pirelli P Zero's in 315/30/18 for $260 each. I just bought a whole set not too long ago, debating getting another set of rear tires just because the price is so good.

^ tire rack has r888's for $300 in 315 30 18. steal.

the pzero's they have are rosso's... pretty old technology.
the corsa's are far superior (but i dont think they come in a 315)

the r888's are a much better bang for your buck and the grip doesnt even compare. (in terms of grip only)

I'm going through the same thing myself. I would love to see a 315/25r19 PS2 compared to the 305/30r19 PSS - does anyone know if the PSS runs narrower or wider than the PS2 in the same size?

is this some kind of closeout?! that's a great price! seeing as ps2's are 488 each, i'd go back to pirelli's at that price. that's a great street tire. good call. my next swap will be front and rear. hope they;re still 260 each then

All technical tire specs are published on the individual company's websites and also on tire rack. com including actual widths and sidewall heights of each "size"

You're right, they don't compare. The R888's are for the track only, with a treadwear rating of 100. The Pirelli's are a street tire rated at 220 which will last far longer. They're not comparable at all, a real comparison would be between Michelin Sport Cups. As far as bang for the buck goes, the Pirelli's win.

No idea if it's a closeout price, just browsed their site again, the price is now $230 per tire. Sorely tempted to buy two more rears just because that price is so low, even though it may be 2+ years before I actually need rear tires again.

TX, many of us run r888's. ( 600+whp or rwd guys)
the pirelli rosso's are a very old tire.. (they came on the first generation lambo murcielago... about 12 years ago.).

the cool thing about the r888 is you can rotate them side to side, which will theoretically cause them to last longer, assuming you have a NON turbo alignment spec.

the michelin cups are FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR superior to the r888.

I know a lot of guys run them, and I agree with most of what you wrote. What I don't agree with is comparing them to the Pirelli's. They are a completely different type of tire.

I've had the MPSC's. It's a great tire... when it's dry and the temperature is above 65 degrees outside. In the rain, they are downright dangerous. Same goes for when it's 40 outside... no traction.

The Pirelli, by comparison, can be driven just fine in wet weather and cold temps. For $230, it's a great all around tire, regardless of how old the design is. (The tires I received were N4, so it's their latest design for P-cars.)

Unfortunately that's incorrect. The R888 is a directional tire with a symmetrical tread. You HAVE to dismount it and flip it on the wheel in order to mount it on the other side. The Nitto NT01 is NON directional with an assymetrical tread (there is an inside and outside to the tire) and can be flipped side to side without dismounting. Same goes for the MPSC. I'm not sure what NON turbo alignment specs have to do with it.

I'm not a street/drag racer so my experience may by a little different, but on the track the NT01 is superior to the R888 in that it does not cycle out nearly as fast as the R888 and grip is consistent nearly all the way to the cords. The R888 starts becoming very slick past 50% tread life and falls off the cliff even with tread remaining (this may however not be much of a factor in a street environment as a tire will never see such high temps that will cause it to degrade so quickly). The NT01 provides excellent grip even when all the tread is gone and the tire is a perfect slick. I found that the 305/35/18 NT01s provide more grip than the 315/30/18s due to their larger contact patch. The NT01s are probably the best bang for the buck out there. $1000 for a set of 4 and I routinely get over 800 miles per set and over 30 cycles.

When new, Michelin Sport cups provide better grip than either the R888 or NT01 but cycle out very quickly after about 12-15 cycles at which point their grip level falls below that of the NT01.

Pretty much all these tires have no grip below 40F or so..

As always, YMMV...
