I change my plugs ,Denso Platinums, every 10,000 miles and they still must be good then because my car doesn't run different at the change?
I run 1.4 bars,93 pump gas..
I don't believe or think a coil is going to make a difference in HP IF IT is functioning properly to begin with and not cracked,, most replace plugs at the same time so I believe ,depending on plug condition, that it could be the plug that made a difference..Many have made a lot of HP with stock coils..
I put the 997 coils in even though my were still good with no problems at around 38,000 miles.....It did seem to have better part throttle response after that??

2 - 3 hours for plugs & coils is enough time to be thorough if never attempted before. Quicker the second time around!

Sound's about right. Taking the intercoolers off the first time is not as big of a deal as it seems at first. When re-installing them be damn sure you hear a "click" when reseating the boost hoses or you will be taking off the bumper again in a hurry

Hello all, I am new and don’t know much about these cars, needless to say that I am not too familiar with engine components or terminology, I have misfire in cyl 2 and 4, dealer told me to change plugs and coil pack, I am going with 997 coil pack as I have been reading forums for last few day, also OEM plugs, I keep reading MAF cleaning, I think it is Air Filter? Please confirm.

Also some people are saying to change variocam solenoid brackets?

Is there anything else I should change while I have my car up on hoist, bumper off .

Changed my plugs today, took 3h 15', which of 1h just getting #6 coil out. One might wonder why, because they're all visible when ICs are removed, but if you have VGTs things are slightly different. There's a jungle of solid oil piping plus a rather big turbo feed tube just in front of #6 coil. And vane control unit completes the disaster. I ended up splitting coil and it's tube on their location and removing them separately.

Installed Denso's IK22s.

EDIT: No lift, bumper off, tail lights remained. Wasn't the first time...

Did my plugs and coils this weekend. Paid $350 for the coils and plugs.

Took about 3-4 hours... took my time. no lift. Use DIY on this forum and took bumper off. You need to buy various socket extensions.

You learn a LOT about your car. I think it is worth doing yourself if you have the time. Also take off the back tail lights as well before you take off bumper.

I have 40K miles and plugs/coils never replaced. No misfires... I got EPL flash and wanted to make sure no issues.

The first time I did mine, no lift, no DYI info, it took me 2 1/2hrs. I can see 3hrs and some change but, if your paying for over 4hrs, you are getting taken.

The first time I went very slowly and it took a little under 4 hours. Second time just a little over an hour. (no lift - just a jack) You get significantly faster the more often you do it.

Well worth the money to fork out for the BBI coils and stop worrying about misfires. Those who say coils are all the same have not used the BBI coils. I thought my 997 coils were great until I switched. I could not believe that it actually made a such a noticeable difference - you can actually feel a cleaner more complete burn. Now I just change the plugs.

I charge 2 hours. Do I do it faster? Sometimes.... But I spend a little time checking out other stuff to take pictures and email customers (if any other problems exist).

That's totally reasonable for a professional job.

I lost site of this thread but it's still going strong.

Indy called today and said the car is done (plugs and coils) and no issues reported. I can't pick it up to Friday but assume for now the issue is fixed.

He also indicated, for those asking, that the 996 parts were all updated to 997 so technically everyone is putting 997 parts on their 996 if using OEM. True or not, I stuck with OEM. I got 25,000 miles on these plugs/coils before any issues arose, so in the future I'll probably change them at 20K unless the same symptoms appear earlier. I have a UMW tune so I can't complain about going nearly to the recommended mileage for a plug change.

More info for some out there. Turns out my coils were built in 2003, which probably came with the replacement engine that was put in the car in 2004. So while the plugs had 25k on them, the coils had 49k. I think that's inline with normal wear on those parts for a mostly stock car.
