I suggest the V1. The detection iscomparable with both the X50 and the Bel RX65, but the arrows are worth their price in gold. For more info check http://www.radardetector.net - a forum where we discuss these gadgets. RacerX is also a member there.

It looks like there are a lot of multiple sources doing tests.

http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=9090

They rate the BEL/Escort #1.

V1 a third, but in the writing and charts, it's almost as if it's biased against the V1.

I trust you folks. Fastest cars out there on the road on a daily basis (which takes out the Ferraris ).

Any more comments welcome. Why V1? Argument against it is.. peeps who think expensive is better buy it. So it is $100 more than the competition.

My bad.. I have the plain 8500, not the X50.

The V1 one goes off in places where there is no radar.. it picks up the door openers etc more than the Escort. I don't mind it too much, except you start to ignore it after a while which is dangerous.

Based on recent reviews on radartest.com, they bag the V1 has been archaic. They say the Escort 8500 X50 is the champ.

Then why is it that I see a lot of you 0-60 in 3.x second drivers run V1?

I'm just talking out this logic. The door openers are radar, so if the escort isn't picking up on them, is that REALLY a good thing? I've yet to have the V1 go off when there is not a source triggering it, yes a lot of the time it's not a police radar, but it is something and the detector is just doing it's job.

I have mine setup so it doesn't start to beep till it hits a certain strength, because as we all know, when it's a cop, you know it's a cop. So the little bogeys don't bother me.

Well, you can buy a factory refurbished one for $360 with full warranty (new V1s returned in the first month). When the time comes to sell it, you lose no money at all or may even profit if you sell it overseas. The V1 is also fully upgradeable, but I suggest you simply sell the old one on ebay when the time comes and buy a new one with upgraded software. You rwally can´t go wrong with any detector, but the problem I forgot to mention with the X50 is that it doesn´t detect Ku band and they´re brining Ku radar guns onto the market in the US. So it´s either the V1 or the Bel RX65. Your pick. I would however go for the V1, since I already own one.

Yup - having done some recent summer vacation driving , there were MANY multiple Chipper encounters , tipped off by the V1's bogie counter ( 2 or 3 radar signals and one ahead , after just passing earlier one - forward and rearward arrows lit up ).Like the V1 ads say, every other detector would have just continued to beep-beep .

So what is the benefit of knowing whether the radar is behind you or in front of you or in the air or underground????? Seems to me that at first alert, regardless of where the radar is coming from, you would decrease speed immediately. Unless when it's behind you, you plan out outrunning it.

Thumbs up V1 .. absolutely!

While the V1 has saved me MANY times prior to this past weekend, the most recent "save" was particularily linked to the V1 and it's arrows.

While traveling on a 4 lane interstate on Saturday, I had to pass a truck pulling a trailer full of trailers on the right ... since he would NOT move over to the correct lane (another topic) ... my complete focus was on a) making sure he didn't move at the last second, and b) having some fun by accelerating and hearing PSE kick in.

As I reached the front of the truck my V1 went absolutely nuts so I hit the brakes hard and then scanned ahead. Nothing so I quickly glanced down to check the V1. The radar is coming from the back which is weird since there were no cops behind me. Then I realize I have passed an on ramp and my rear view shows an unmarked police car flying down the ramp after me (ramp was hidden by berm). He immediately jumps right on my butt and I start to pull over when I realize he hasn't put his lights on yet!

I see him on his radio, checking for wants and warrants I assume, and then he passes me at a high rate of speed. Now a smart person would count his blessings and let him go but I have never made such claims so I speed up while maintaining a discrete distance. After awhile I lose sight of him (I figure he was doing at least 90) and don't give him another thought.

Several miles down the road, as I am moving rather quickly up a long hill in the right lane, on my way to pass an 18 wheeler, a get another radar warning from the rear. I let off the gas and look behind me ... nothing but the MB and a few others that I had recently passed. Plus there were no cars that were moving over to the "slow" lane (a great indication of cops coming up behind you). So I continue to start my passing manuver when the rear radar arrow lights up again and a little more vigorously. Now I see a few cars moving over to the right several hundred yards behind me so I downshift and let gravity continue to slow the car so when I begin to pass I am only 4-5 mph over the speed limit. Imagine my surprise when it was the same unmarked car coming up behind me .... (and his) again. I can only assume he pulled off and waited for me to pass his exit and then tried sneaking up on me. Obviously he never saw the hardwired V1 on the first check otherwise I might have been nabbed.

So which one .... V1 .... of course!!
