i'm not too concerned and fairly certain nothing i have installed is impeding airflow in any measurable way. plus, i don't particularly care to find a bird up in my grill unless it's... chicken

they'll be fine, and they look good too. so this mod's kinda a two birds with one...... LOL.. sorry.

great mod.

I fabricated a core support cover and installed the hex shaped grill. I'm not sure if I going to complete the conversion or go back to stock, but at least it's easier to make the decision when I'm looking at the actual part.

Below is a picture, so people can decide if they want to pursue this option.

BTW the mesh is 1/4" thick ABS plastic.

Later, Steve

Truthfully, unless you are really close, with black grills you don't even see them. It gives the aggressive look without the debris.

I dont think its wise to remove the grills. They have a function. The grills guide the air directly to the condensors. I wouldnt remove them. Why not putting the mesh simply behind the grills like 99,9% of all guys do it?

You need to cover the area around the aluminum core support, or the air will go around, instead of through the radiator.

The stock grills don't really direct air. At speed, the area behind the grills (and in front of the radiators) becomes a high pressure area. Basically more air will flow into the opening in the bumper, then will flow through the radiator. Given this, the air speed through the opening isn't really that high. Basically the air stacks up against the radiator and the excess air simply flows around the opening.

Here's a picture that demonstrates how the pressure builds up. You can see this with the red area.

Put mesh behind the grills, doesn't really solve the problem if you don't like the look of the stock grills. I'm not sure why Porsche decided to put straight flat bars across the radiator opening, when there are basically nothing but curves on the rest of the car.

It's like having Ferrari Testarossa side slats on the front of our car. Thankfully Porsche didn't decide to do this with our intercooler openings.

That doesnt convince me. If you show me another picture taken from another car without the grills and it shows a difference, for instance less little red lines or something like that, then you can maybe convince me.
Anyway i dont want to argue. Everybody can do it like he wants.
I wouldnt.

the slats opening allowing the debris which was once the bane of my cars existence now covered by the mesh is well worth any potential for impedence of airflow which i think steves ( awesome ) pic shows well, that it does not. in either event, i am not driving fast enough for long enough for that to even be a possible downside. while the debris i used to try and pick out from under and OFF my rads, clearly was. in fact, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear of premature rad failure owing to the fossilization of palmetto bugs and what all else gets stuck into the fins. not havin' it.

but as you've just said. to each their own. plus i think it looks fine. mines silver mesh against an arctic silver car. my only complaint is it *might* look like the 10 bucks it cost LOL. but it clearly *works*
