Very Nice! I am considering something like this in blue for my 986. I have a OEM PCM/Nav unit that has a bunch of amber on it too that would have to go.

It can, but this requires dis-assembly of the center LCD screen. Supposedly (I haven't looked) there are a tone more, and smaller, LED's within the screen.

I would have attempted it, had it not been for the fact that it hold valuable information about the car. The ecu doesn't store the mileage... the dash does. Who knew!

Hmmm, I'm still thinking about it. I noticed my 986 has two colors on the odometer screen; normal is amber, red with warnings. I wonder if there are two sets of LCDs or if the LCDs are red/orange bi-color (is that even possible?).

These are the SMDs I found for the AC, switches, etc.

Any idea what the smaller size would be? Lighting / electrical is not my forte.

I could be wrong, but I think the 986 has a completely different configuration. I think they use a bulb-based lighting instead of LEDs...

One thing I did do on accident is forget to mark which LEDs are for things like turn signal, and high beam... etc.. Now I have white turn signal blinkers... oops!

The 986 cluster switched from bulbs to LEDs around 2001. Supposedly the 2003 996 and 986 are very similar except the outer two gauges (voltage and oil pressure).

Do you also have white warning indicators for over temp and low fuel? I'll need to take note of those.

Are the filters on the speed and clock just like the AC control amber filter? They'll need to be replaced with a white filter too?

Thanks for the info. I'm building up as much info as I can before I tear into mine since I have very little experience with auto electronics.
