Ebay is really risky on high price items. I bid on a watch and asked the guy if he opposed to an escrow agency handling the transfer. He went on and on about how people get burned with escrow companies and that buyers set up fake ones and steal the product, and this and that. My response was you pick the escrow company then. He said I was trying to steal from him and he did not want to do it. His auction ended and he emailed me, "I will do an escrow if you want." I couldn't believe it. So many people work so hard to make an easy buck, I say go work that hard at your job and maybe you can make a buck. Anyway, any ebayers, I would be real careful for high priced items. My friend bought a $10000 watch on ebay from a guy with like 150+ positive feedback. Well, he stole his money and my friend came to find that his positive responses were all in the last 3 months on low priced items.

you're right, E*Bay has a ton of problems especially with high-priced items like Porsches ... and I don't understand why some continually use the price that some Porsche Turbo sold on E*BAY ... without warranty, with no recourse, sold as-is ... as the going rate on Turbos?

I would pay min. 10grand over E*Bay pricing to buy from an authorized local dealer for a 996/993 turbo.

My success on EBay buying/selling cars has been had using it solely as an 'advertising tool.'

Most recently I sold my '00 C4 Cab on EBay for a very good price.....I made a great page with many pictures/option information/etc, set the reserve at a price which I would sell the car w/no question, and wrote "E-mail me @ XXX if you'd like to buy this car now" at the top of the auction. After a couple listings and many 'virtual tire kickers,' I sold the car to a nice guy in S. Dakota and it was shipped out within a week. No BS EBAY contractual hassles....

Not sure what I hate worse on ebay. Those who end auctions early, or those who don't end them at all...

I was the high bidder on an item a few weeks ago on which nobody else bid. It was a good price for the item and I waited a week for it to end so I could "claim my prize" (while watching other similar auctions end w/o bidding) and when I contacted the seller he replied: "Oh, those sold off ebay the 1st day they were listed, I'll let you know if I get any more..." Nice!! he could have atleast ended the auction early so I didn't wait around thinking I won...

I complianed to ebay and they said it was not a violation of any of their rules !?!?!

I hate ebay!

I have sold at least 25 cars (nothing crazy, ranging from $5,000 to $30,000) this year and would say that about 95% of them were off eBay sales to eBay customers. As you say, it's a great advertising tool for about $100 for a week. No local paper will get you the exposure that eBay will. I always put my cell number so people can call with questions and negotiate offers. Of all the cars I sold on eBay, about 4-5 were my personal cars which I drove for 2-3 years and ended up selling for around what I paid! I sold my Mustang for break even after 4 years of owning it and my Lexus for only $2,000 less than I paid for it 2 years earlier!

And then there is the possibility that, if the price was low and it was a 'no reserve' auction, it was never sold in the first place....

BeastPower Motorsports had to cancel the auction (item# 2440661027) because our Porsche 996 auto-dimming mirrors had completely sold out. We even had to refund another customer who paid $395 for this mirror (a 6speedonline.com board member). We had also advertised the mirrors on 6speedonline.com and received tremendous response. The auction was cancelled in the last minute due to coincidence, if we had learned earlier that the mirrors had sold out outside of eBay, we would have cancelled the auction earlier.

We did not like having to cancel the auction, but had no choice, since the product had sold out. We would have honored any final auction price. If you check the other auctions that we had, which finished in the past few days, you will notice that we accepted very low ending bids. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we were out of stock, and we were liquidating our inventory at a $300+ loss per mirror. In some cases we lost over $500 per mirror. We liquidated over 15 mirrors in the past 4 days.

We firmly believe in honoring the eBay code of ethics, but this was a different situation. Also, eBay specifically allows eBay sellers to cancel their auctions and any bids at any time. As a matter of policy, we will cancel all bidders that do not have sufficient feedback, and if they have any negative or neutral feedback. Sellers are fully entitled to offer their items for sale in multiple places at the same time, and eBay backs this up 100%.

Cheers.

I was high bidder on that auction. My top bid was your website asking price of $395. I was hoping to get it a little cheaper but if not I would have paid the $395 on the website. Had I known they would sell so quickly, I would have just bought one outright.
