Is it normal to hit 1.0 bar on stock setup

Hey all, new 996TT owner.
Been enjoying the car and the power, even at stock.

Last night was driving and some audi came up behind me, couldn't tell what series as I could only see the signature LEDs in my rearview.
Anyways as I'm pulling away from him, I notice 1.0 on the dash boost meter.
Up until last night, I've only hit 0.8, it was cool like 60 degrees.

I don't believe the car was ever modded or upgraded, its 100% stock from what I can tell.
Its a 2001 with only 27k.

Is it possible to hit that much boost stock? this was in fourth.

Thanks

Von

No not while letting off, while I was on it. I didn't stay in it long tho.
I always keep an eye to see how much boost I'm running so it caught my attention.
I take it that's not the average....

Well if your stock without a tune running that high you better not drive it and get it checked and you could be leaning. I know markski helped me out and found a bunch of little issues when boost was running a little high. Just my opinion.

Not normal. I'm stock as well and the only time I've seen higher than .7 is at higher elevation where I hit .8 but I do believe that is normal because of the thinner air.

1.0 bar reads like something's wrong. I've seen 0.9 bar from my stock 03 Turbo at elevations over 8K feet on I-80 in Wyoming on 93 octane gasoline. Best I see at lower elevations (<1K feet which is about as high above sea level I get here in the bay area) is 0.7 bar.

Best get it looked into. Hole a piston or burn a valve if careful you are not.

Wow, really, is the Porsche motor that fragile?
I was thinking something simple like perhaps the wastegate actuators were upgraded.
I'm no Porsche expert yet and still learning, but I have a couple of questions then.
1) Does Porsche have any fuel or boost cut prevention for overboosting and what pressure?
2) Shouldn't the ecu use the map sensor to add more fuel for more boost
3) Is the fpr rising rate? meaning more boost more fuel pressure
4) What kind of knock detection do we have?

These are some of the basics of previous turbo charged management systems on previous cars I've owned, I'm still learning but from my past experience with turbo systems I would hope for any of the above: I'm hoping Porsche engineering does these already.

In my previous life it wasn't uncommon for many untuned cars to run 20-30% more boost than factory settings safely.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm gonna have it looked at anyways this week.

YES!

When you over boost the car without more fuel = lean condition also rods are weaker on these motors plus you have no tune so it doesn't understand when theres more boost and air flow on what to do.

it's easier to believe that you may have a k16 car with a tune, than it is to believe you may have any problem. a k16 tuned car should boost to .9 or even 1.0 but a non tuned k16 car would spike in favorable ambient conditions to .8 max. though .7, should be seen with regularity. if you have more 1.0 occurrences? you have a tuned k16 car.

Agree! It's not normal! 0.8 bar was the highest boost I had when my was stock!

Lots of factors influence boost. Air temp, humidity, gas octane, elevation. At sea level with 93 octane and temps in the high 60's you should be able to pull 1 bar with an X50. At on .70 bar I would check for a boost leak (a very common problem this most of the time the culprit and usually overlooked..ask Marski)
