Help with pull off: 997 turbo AUTOMATIC

Hey guys,

My 997 Turbo (pre pdk) just came out of drive plan. So I took it to the track for some street legal drags. We'll I'm afraid I let the side down big time

Every race I did, the other car (even an X6) got a head start on me, and I'd spend the rest of the 1/4mile catching up. I did NOT represent.

Here's my setup
- 997 turbo sports pack (not turbo S)
- tiptronic pre pdk model
- in sports mode (allows turbo over boost - I think that's all)
- tried pasm on/off, no change
- stock standard weight
- road tyres (no slipping tho)
- half tank

When the starter lights go green, I put my foot flat, and the car casually climbs to 3000rpm before the turbo kicks in and I start to fly. The X6 was also automatic and had none of this awful lag even though it's also a turbo. Every car was spanking me by half way. All except an insane cortina with a v10 Lexus engine I was able to catch by the finish...but i never looked impressive.

I tried using the handbrake and lifting the revs, but at 2000 the car would inch forwards
So I tried applying brakes firmly, but it seems like the revs don't want to go over 2000 - almost like there's a resistance point when braking.
I also tried pulling off in second. Didn't help much.
It's possible my tyre grip is an issue and the car is controlling the torque to prevent slip. So what feels like turbo lag may actually be a controlled take off?? Thoughts?

So clearly I'm a crap driver, and I'm really after the 101 guide here. I'm hoping someone can point me to some threads here that help with fast pull offs in an AUTOMATIC (my 996 manual felt WAY faster cos of its awesome pull off).

PS: between traffic lights, without the benefit of the full 1/4mile, I can get caned by cars as lightweight as an A4 2.0!! Yep, I'm really letting the side down here.

Thanks - can you give me a ROUGH feel for timing: is this all very rapid as in hold brake, slam accelerator fast, and release - all within a second.
OR
Hold brake, lift revs to _____ (?) and hold them there until ready to launch? That's what I tried and battled to get over 2000 rpm.

I havent driven an auto car and or launched one in many years. But you want to find the rev limiter and drop it about 200rpm below that.

So basically find where the rev's wont go any higher when applying the brake and then 200rpm below thats where u launch from. I have only driven this car in manual so I do not know what rev range thats in.

Sport Mode ON
PASM OFF
PSM OFF

Brake hard, press gas pedal all the way down and release brake as soon as you feel the car moving.
