Frustrated with radio code issue.

Hi all,

Just got the car. Dealer (not a Porsche dealer) installed a new battery and apparently did not have the codes (PCM and NAV).

Drove the car home 500 miles with no radio not stressing about it. Dealer is paying for issues. Had the car gone through at a local independent shop. Car is in wonderful shape but they also cannot figure the code issue out. Multiple Porsche dealers have given us the same codes to no avail.

Anyone know where to go next for help? My Indy shop said they know a radio ahop who knows oem radios. Hope that works.

Thanks in advance!!

Thanks Xwalker...It is at the shop until tomorrow. I have the VIN here...I guess I can try that for now. Do you have the NAV unit? I do...It requires the PCM and NAV codes to work.

The dealer(s) have given me the same codes to use using the VIN method. But not working.

It's a 4 digit code with no lockout for repeated failures. Do you have children?

If your car is 2001, you will not be able to get a Nav update anyway. I went through considerable trouble finding a car with Nav only to find out (after) that you can't get updates. I ended up replacing the OEM with Pioneer.

Another trick - many owners put the code under the ash tray - have a look.

Loren over at Renntech helped me out. There's a big thread over there to ask for his help on this specific issue; see link. You'll need the Type number (4 digit) and serial number. There's a way to get this from the display but I don't remember how.

http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...-request-here/

I don't know if the 997s onward have this issue but it's a serious PITA for the 996 model.

Good luck - this is one of the dumbest issues Porsche ever came up with. Was there once a huge rash of crappy stereo thefts in Germany?

Got lucky apparently...Dealer pulled radio and found code card taped to the top of the radio! All is good!

Funny as it was different than the code that Becker gave me via the serial number.

Whatever...At least it works now!

Thanks for all advice...
