Turbo Intercooler sound

I spun my car and hit the passenger side corner rear bumper into a tree. Immediately after I notices an unusual sound form the same corner. The sound coincided with the turbo operation. It sounds like "Shhhhhhh....". I think it is air escaping the system. The driver side corner does not have the same sound.

I had my body shop fix the damage to the bumper and when they did they did not find any damage to the intercooler or the hoses. Of course their test was visual only.

Any suggestions as of why the sound is there?
Is it possible to run the turbos while the car is stationary to observe the problem?

Sounds like a cracked intercooler end tank. Or loose fitting.

Is your car stock ?
If not, you may have a diverter valve that was damaged as in some cases they are mounted to the IC in aftermarket set-ups

My car is stock.

How would I be able to test for cracked intercooler? Is it fixable or does it need to be replaced?

By the way what is the function of the intercooler? The car runs just fine currently.

When the turbos compress the intake charge air it heats up. Intercoolers are big heat exchangers that help cool off that intake air before it gets gulped up by the engine (technical terms).

You probably cracked an end tank or something thereabouts. Buy 997.2 ICs and swap both out! problem (maybe?) solved!

ETA: could just be something popped loose too. probably worth going over all the plumbing more closely.

Have a mechanic shop preform a boost leak test from the turbos to the motor. This will show any pipes/connection leaking air. It shouldn't be a very expensive maintance item and a good one to have performed anyways.

If it is the Intercooler that is broken, you can easily get a used pair on the forums for $200 or less. Going to the dealer to replace the part though will be expensive.

Sounds like its a connection or piping that is letting air escape from the system though.

When you drive, what boost levels are you seeing? Are you seeing them as quickly as you did before?
