996 Turbo down under
So like you, have now decided to pull the trigger after getting the ok from the Mrs (will do a one year sale and lease back novated lease and the above parts will be be done as part of regular maintenance and servicing) on the next manual 996tt that ticks my boxes that comes up, eg namely 2003 model, grey or black with pcm satnav circ 85-95k.Expecting its going to take me at least 6 months to 12 months to source one. PS I was going to pounce (rang a mate to check it out and was about to text the car sales mobile no.) for the manual in perth in the $60k's, but read the fine print on the accident damage. Enquired about the blue uk import, but found some posts on forums that the previous owner tracked it a fair bit and most UK imports suffer from excessive rust and that one did as well. Also liked the grey manual imported from NZ (Prefer AUD DELIVERED) but that looked really really clean and if it was still for sale I would be all over it (looks like you picked it up?????). Look forward to reading what mods you going to do on your car. PS Murphy's law, Now I am ready to pull the trigger, only one manual 996tt for sales on the market that has 700plus hp circ 125k aud / 100k US and the leanest I've seen the market for manuals for 18 months.

Welcome Smit
I'm about 10k's East of Melbourne, I've had my 04 man coupe for over 3 years and love it. Cannot see ever selling it, there is a good reason why there are almost no TT available for sale. Owner especially buyers now realize how much of a good thing this car really is.
With the right mods as you have mentioned brings these cars to much higher levels of performance. Forget GPS as discs are outdated and I'm sure no longer available.
Your in good hands here with lots of good advise, good luck with your search and hope you score a good one but just remember that the cheaper ones almost always have a story.

So if you want a tune for downunder 98 from a US based tuner, ask for a 93 tune. There are other great tunes and tuners out there too but I ran with my UMW tune from Kevin after researching things and speaking with several tuners. If you can plug in a simple cable and have a laptop to run his loader program from, it only takes a minute to send him your original file, and another minute a while later to apply the new one that he'll send back. Transforms even a stock 996 Turbo and the best bang for buck I've spent on my car in 5 years of ownership.

There was a manual 996 turbo that appeared on carsales about 2 weeks ago for about $89,000. It had a fair bit of work done but it's gone now. 2 other manuals on the market and the cheapest one is asking $111,000 (convertible).
Prices have definitely gone up here in oz, especially manuals.

well, it was either that or a chicktronic lol, and we know you better that THAT!
they are lean, and sought after for a reason, as well they should be! btw, the mod list of yours is terrific and i have many of the same things going on with mine and, with the same advisor. but mine hasn't been "updated" in any significant way in quite some time! and yet, i see 1.3 at will and daily, so whats to fix!?
but you couldn't be in better hands when your mods begin. after the acquisition, of course
so good luck with the search! ( and welcome aboard! )..
i hear that finding a nice clean manual 96t down under, is akin to finding a 'roo up here!

I just saw this, how did I miss it?Yes you guys do know me better that THAT, thats for sure.
There is currently a 996 GT2 asking $499,000.
Yes, nearly has me thinking do I save up some more , not do the 996 mods and look at a 997.1 turbo (limit mods to tune, exhaust and intercooler ONLY) as they have not bottomed as of yet as I see it and a couple manuals went for circa 130k very recently
The world's gone mad, there is only one 996 turbo left for sale, there was at least 15 to 20 not that long ago. There was a 996 GT2 at $405k which appears to have sold quickly and there is another two, one at $389k and the other at $499k. Just remember what goes up must come back down, I witnessed a similar thing back in the 80's with Porsche's but not to this extent.

I think its due to the booming property market. I believe that a lot of people are also buying their dream used performance cars in leu of electric and hybrid cars dominating the new car market.
I have heard that some people are paying $80,000 for clean SLR 5000 toranas and HQ monaros etc.
my friend sold his immaculate low KM 997.1 Turbo with about $30K in Mods for $140K. It was a rocket. I don't think they will drop much lower than $130K if they are competing against 996 Turbos at the same price.
I would pay a bit extra for 997.1 turbo manual if you can afford it.
