SuperD:

Too funny. There is one on ebay right now that has a hard top.

Check out Becks website. They have several and they all are between $ 25k and $ 35k and all all pretty much loaded out. The $ 25k may have the 1.6 engine and is 0 - 60 in 6 instaed of the 5.2 seconds with the 2.1 engine.

I am thinking the Blue silver with red interior on the Beck page. I also have contacted a guy in Georgia I found on the spyderclub.com forum.

I've driven a few of the replicas. The Beck definately has the best fit and finish among the replica-builders out there. It's a handful to drive fast just like the real one (or so I've heard), don't expect it to handle or behave anything like a 996 Turbo, they are very very twitchy. But, if you're looking for something relatively quick and lots of fun on a nice day, then you can't go wrong with the 550 Spyder replica.

Now, not to thread-jack but Chuck Beck has a 904 replica pretty much almost ready for production and from what I've heard it's also a total blast to drive...

That 904 is really cool. There is something about the 550 though that makes it cool. It is almost so geeky it is cool. My daughters and wife are actually fired up abu the spyder so looks like a done deal as soon as I can find one and figure out whether I want to go used or new.

Did you buy the black one listed on their web site as sold. Any problems, complaints, wish they would have dones.

Let me know any options too that you would recommend. Maybe I can still add some stuff to their cars already prepped and ready for sale.

What makes Vintage better? I'm just starting to learn about them, so guidance/education is most appreciated, thanks.

I saw that a Vintage sold on ebay recently for $ 21k in a no reserve auction and it was sold by Vintage as new. Look at closed auctions. I am all for saving a little, especially if there is not much difference or one is better.

Please do tell about Vintage. I called Beck and have the ball rolling on the blue silver with red interior. They are also adding the Porsche badges and lil bastard numeral kit.

thanks. when i checked awhile ago, they didn't make the RSK yet. it's sort of a modified version with the DOT safety windshield and all, but still look pretty cool with the headlights and details.

i'll rather have this than a s2000 or miata.

I had a Beck before learning about Vintage. The Vintage car was just built better. The vintage is just more true to the real thing. The build quality is night and day. Also, Vintage is much better with customer support. The guy that runs it is Greg. After, seeing one of the Vintage spyders...I wished I had gotten that one instead of the Beck. Go look at them both...you'll see the difference in the details.

Here you go Collin. This guy is a stickler for detail. He even built one out of aluminum...just amazing. I took my Beck to him and he redid a bunch of stuff for me. I regret not finding him before. The only problem is, he takes his time and does a job perfect....so, that could mean at least 6 months....but worth it.
