996 Turbo / GT2 Turbo discussion on previous model 2000-2005 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and 911 GT2.

Anyone find the max power per gear via a Dyno? For racing (shift light)

Even with my small GT28/64 turbos, I need all 7,000rpm in every gear.

Later

Yes of coarse ,,that's why you need a dyno sheet from the motor to see your power curve Because each motor is different with the different mods..

Not to be rude here,,, BUT you can tell by sound on a video that the shift RPMS from the sound of the motor are the same??
You are good..

Actually if you do the math,,the other shifts after the 1 to 2 shift are spaced with gear recovery within a few hundred RPMS,,, so one Right RPM shift point you put you close enough..

To answer some questions here. That run was a bad example I had a brain fart and shifted really early on the 1/2 shift somewhere around 6800 which really killed the run.

How it should have went......was 1/2 7800 and the rest of the gears right about 7500.

Whoever said the 1/2 shift is key was correct you want to take first gear as long as you can because of the rev drop going into 2nd gear. This goes for cars that spin first gear, just let it spin!!!!! and let the mph catch up if I had a dollar every time I saw people short shift cars on the 1/2 shift I would have a 991 by now

Example: If I Dyno a car and I see peak power is being made around 6500 and power drops a little after that and the car has a rev linter of 7100 I would say a good shift point would be 6900, the key is to stay close to the peak of the hump at all times. If you wanna get real crazy look at a gear calculator with your tire size and look at rev drops VS where your power is made. That should do the trick.

Chris thanks for the response!!! Definitely nice to have someone give info with the fastest and consistent times out there!! I just didn't think redlining it at all times was the best.

Chris,

Is your trans stock? Stock shifter? Your shifts are quick and crisp. Just trying to figure out if there was anything special in the mix other than a driver mod.

Thanks

Trans gear's are stock (Porsche) gears just mix matched with a long 1st gear. The shifter is a numeric racing with cup car cables.

It's a badass shifter setup and I would recommend it with confidence you will love every minute of it.

I get people who think this car just goes straight so for that fact I am trying to setup a day at my track where I run a 9sec pass swap out the rear tires and drive straight to the road course (same track)and knock out some record times over there it would make for a great video that's for sure.

I've heard good things about that shifter. Cup car cables? What's the diff and where would I get them?

Any comparison to the oem 996 short shifter? That's what I have now but still is sloppy. Those cables make a huge difference? Just a tighter feel?

. I agree with Chris , the numeric shifter is by far in my eyes the nicest short shift on the market .
