Sell the Turbo to get a GT2?
Well, I looked and looked for over a year for a GT2 and found none. So, I bought my Turbo which I have had now for 2 years and enjoy. And now there is a local GT2 for sale. I don't know what to do. If I could do a quick sale I would consider it but I have no room to buy the GT2 and sell the Turbo. Plus, I've put a good deal of money into my car so there is that problem.
High class problem? Of course but like all problems this one needs to get solved!

Just take the TT back to the shop and get the stuff taken off and return to stock. Buy the GT2 and sell parts at your leisure. Win. That's what it sounds like you want to do.
How many track days are you doing a year? If you are going to ragdoll it, keep the turbo, have your fun then get a GT2 a few years down the road.
And for clarification, you can disable the drivers aids easily (awd is the only one that takes work).

Hey Jon, I don't think I've seen all of your mods listed out before, and I had a few questions below in red italic.
Maybe one of these days at the track we can trade cars for a couple of laps...
Here is a list of items off of my car that I copied and pasted off of my computer which take the TT platform to GT2 spec and beyond. You can ignore a lot of the stuff but pretty much anything labeled 996GT3/Cup is what comes on the GT2 as the 2 cars have 90% commonality in parts.
996GT2 headliner / interior carpeting
Scott - I know the interior carpeting is thinner in the GT2 (and/or there's less soundproofing?), but I thought both cars (Turbo/RUF and GT2) had the same alcantara head liner.
996GT2 front trunk tool tray
S - The Turbo only has a fabric bag for the larger tools (jack, handle) and a nylon roll-up slots for the long and thin tools. What is the GT2 tool tray like? I tried searching but couldn't find any pictures, only some forum posts.
RUF strut bar
S - Is this a front bar I assume? I thought a front bar was superfluous due to the location and strength of the firewall, and the strong tie-in to the shock towers both there and on each side. However, I've owned several performance cars where the vast majority consensus was a strut tower bar made no difference, but I added some anyway since they were easy to install and pretty inexpensive (<$100 shipped). I found they made a definite improvement in the performance of the cars, some more than others. The biggest change was with my stage 2 '04 STi (~370 hp/tq) and it was most marked on twisty, 20-50 mph twisty back mountain roads where it made the car much more stable.
997.2 GT2RS Intercoolers
S - Did these come on the car, or have you upgraded to them? I thought your car was built before they were available.
RUF shifter
997 SSK
S - So what exactly do you get from each of these shifter parts?
996GT2 clutch hydraulics
S - So you've removed the accumulator/slave and spring from the pedal?
PSM delete
S - Do you have it totally off? Or is it just off automatically when you turn on the car and you can still turn it on? And does it kick in when you really lose it like it does if it's off on a normal car with PSM?

I spent a lot of money modding my '01 turbo.
I sold it for a huge loss (knew that going in, not crazy
) and bought a GT2.
Haven't regretted a SECOND of it. I track it more than I DD it, but it's just a unique car... very rewarding to drive.
Best of luck!

Killing me!!! I just installed new slotted rotors and have an aero front lip going on. I keep putting money into this guy but....The GT2 is 20 minutes away. Damn!
To answer your questions:
1. The GT2/3 does not have a sunroof and as such the GT2 headliner on the GT2 does not have the hole in it for the sunroof.
2. The GT2 trunk tray is a foam piece (part #99672116390) that fits in the area that the spare tire normally occupies. The foam piece holds a few tools including the air pump and tire slime.
3. The car came with the front strut bar from RUF. It does stiffen the front end. The reason I say that is the fact that a while back I was getting an annoying squeak from the front of the car when ever I drove over uneven terrain. Drove me nuts and I tracked it down to the front strut bar being loose. Once tightened all was good. This clearly shows that there is flex in the front part of the tub.
4. Yes, the 997GT2RS intercoolers were added 3 years ago. The car came from RUF with the 996GT2 units.
5. The car has the 997SSK with a RUF shifter ****/boot.
6. 996GT2 clutch hydraulics: The gearbox is tapped for the GT2 slave in the factory GT2 location and all OEM GT2 clutch parts are installed including the GT2 assist spring, PS reservoir, PS pump, etc..
7. PSM pump is removed. There is no PSM whatsoever, only ABS.
Looking forward to track season...C u soon!
