Moonroof problem...odd

So....hitting the button once to go back doesn't work anymore, but if I push the UP button a few times it goes up. Then it goes past the point it should and snaps or pops. Then I can put it down, then it will slide back with one button press. It also does not close with one button push anymore and I have to hold it down. Do these switches fail? Anyone experience this?

I've got a bunch of similar issues that only sometimes happen with no rhyme or reason I can figure out. I've always been able to close it by holding down the front end of the button, and it only happens maybe 5% or less of the times I use it, so I've never worried about it as I expect the solution would require replacing the switch, taking apart the headliner to grease the track and replacing all of the little plastic parts in the mechanism. I did this on my 2001 C4 and it's a real pain in the butt (not replacing the switch, just the rebuild). There are an amazing number of little bits and pieces that have to intricately work together down to a millimeter or less of clearance to make that sunroof go back inside a really tight space in the roof. And the electronics that sense whether there's any obstruction and reverse it seem to be pretty sensitive.

Just had that issue theres a rubber piece stuck in the back you need to get it out then it will go back. The sunroofs are rare to have problems.

So as a further update, I have used the sunroof reset procedure and that worked while I was driving the car, but then when I turn the car off and come back, the storage of the settings must be lost because it goes back to the way it was with the popping and no auto open/close.
